I'm not a fan of Simple Green, but if it is used properly it may be fine. The bottle I have says to dilute 10:1 for heavy cleaning and 30:1 for light cleaning. Sounds pretty potent to me. I used it once to clean an engine and then heard about it's effect on aluminum and don't use it at all now.
I do use Meguiar's APC+ diluted 12:1 for wheel wells, tires, carpeted mats.
It has been replaced by D10101 All Purpose Cleaner which supposed ly is used the same way, but with different dilution ratios.
One thing. I only do my own vehicles and it doesn't take a lot to clean things.

I would not use it on cars, but I do use it on my vinyl siding of the house:yes:

Let's put it this way

Specific Automotive products for specific uses

Dawn is for dishes

Simple Green for SA and Adam :rockon

Why don't we lay off the name dropping. Detail City is about detailing, not about taking jabs at people.

The word automotive went right over my head the first time I read the post. It probably is a totally different product.
Since they now have a formulation that the aircraft industry will now accept, it seems likely that they have addressed the automotive market as well.
It seems like using a product geared towards the automotive market and used according to the manufacturers instructions would be what to use regardless of who makes it.

Even the automotive stuff you must be VERY careful with -- it may not be the EXACT same product, but it's still extremely potent and could cause damage. Personally if it says Simple Green on it, it gets delegated to wheel wells, and the undercarriage.

thanks for the recomendation guys....i am goin to stop using simple green altogether, just to be safe.....what would u recommend for safe apc that can take its place?

Costco has an awesome degreaser. Its called "Oil Eater". I've used it for spot clenaing of carpets, tires, wells, and trim. Works really well. They also have the Kirkland APC which I've heard good things about.

For my wells and heavy cleaning I have used the Kirkland APC for years....its a great product and cheap

For some reason though I can never find it. Only the Oil Eater. Although I only look in the Automotive section. Where do you find it "Beemer Boy"?

Kirkland is Costco's brand, if I remember correctly, and I think they now label it as Oil Eater. I could be wrong, but I think it's the same stuff.

+1

The Kafko Oil Eater is really good stuff. I haven't seen the Kirkland APC either, I guess they stopped making it. And Kafko Oil Eater is also sold at Autobarn, so I doubt it's a Costco brand.

I've been reading people say don't use simple green, and one of the reasons is that it can damage aluminum.
Here is something from Kafko's website:
Avoid prolonged contact on aluminum.
Here is the page it's on (it's at the bottom)
Kafko International Ltd.

It reads the same way as Simple Green does, so why is this OK and SG not?

No one said to use it for aluminum... We're dedicating it as a degreaser for wells/tires/spot cleaning, ect.

The main topic was to not use SIMPLE GREEN FOR WHEELs in general seeings as it not only causes damage to aluminum, but to painted surfaces as well.

Are the dilutions that people are using correct?
The chart says 30:1 for auto interior and exterior
Simple Green ditution chart
I don't think that I would use at 1:1, but I find that at 10:1 (general all purpose dilution) it works well for wheel wells, tires, and my wheels.
