Simple Green.... Any Users??

FWIW, the US Air Force forbids the use of Simple Green on aluminum airframes.

That's enough for me.

There are SO many other cleaner options...

that's funny, because NASA was one of SG's first big clients. The owner actually drank it in front of the NASA officials to prove it was perfectly environmentally safe.

guess I learn something new here every day :0

I'll take that as positive statement, but if you want links to Air Force , and Army, bulletins, stand up and ask.

Or, do your own due diligence.

I do myself use SG, but only in situations where everything else I have has failed. I don't use it often, but if the job calls for it... :nixweiss

I was planning on doing my engine bay this afternoon with 50/50 mixture of SG/Water.... is this still a good idea, or would DAWN be better ??

Leave the Dawn in the Kitchen. You will need stronger degreaser/APCs.

no, I believe you :) It was a postitive statement :)

i have used SG for awhile, and it works pretty good, cant stand the smell though. i only used it for the engine compartment/front end components on my truck.

however what i recently picked up was a bottle of orange blast, and man is that stuff awesome. ive had mud caked on my front knuckles from offroading for probably over and year, and it was honestly just part of the knuckle at that point, it just looked like it was a bit dusty on the surface. i hit those real quick with the OB last night to see what it would do, and who woulda thought my knuckles were actually black, haha. i did a real quick pass just to see how it would work, but im gonna go back next week and really get in there. with a mild brush and then following up with a standard bucket wash, i think the front susp. will look good as new

I have heard orange blast is the same price, same effectivness and less abrasive, I am returing my S.G. for it.

I like Simple Green as a degreaser but I swear by Eimann Fabrik Hi Intensity for carpet and other miscellaneous interior work.

:)

I never heard that one. The one I heard was that the DuPont salesmen used to drink a half glass of Freon solvent to prove to customers that it was a safe degreaser. Those customers could include NASA who became a huge user of Freon solvents.

That's one of the funiest things I've read on the internet in quite some time!

I wonder what it tastes like? I wonder if that guy is still alive?

Freon solvents were actually very safe, there was basically no toxicity from breathing vapors. Their effect on the ozone layer was another matter, apparently.

I'm going to guess that drinking half a glass would give you a pretty dry throat, followed by some gas due to the low boiling point of the solvent. This whole thing could be an urban legend, so please, NO ONE TRY THIS (as if anyone could get a hold of any Freon 113 anymore anyway).

My wife used to work for an office-plant company. They'd use dilute Simple Green to clean the leaves of the plants! Pretty safe for growing things, I guess.

Do the citrus-based cleaners corrode aluminum like Simple Green does? Is it an issue of alkalinity, or the specific solvents they contain?

I use it on wheel wells, and wheels, and also my hands. After workin under the car a bit, I use the spray bottle I keep near my detailing stuff to wipe off my hands, and some paper towels, it cleans off a lot of crap so I don't leave finger prints getting into the house.

I'll have to try it, diluted, onto the carpets.

Anyone, from Calgary, know where to find 303, Sonus, Autoglym, AND/OR D-limonene?

Having trouble locating these items.

I use SG mixed with Dawn anytime I need to open a portal straight to hell so as to carry on a conversation with the Devil himself. Works pretty darn good....
