simoniz Sytem5... 5 year warrenty with no fine print

Question for the experts. I have read about the teflon myth. Just bought a new 05 odyssey and the dealer offered a Simoniz sytem5 which comes with a five year warrenty on acid rain, bird waste, tree sap, and UV. I do not see any fine print about voiding the warranty if I do not reapply this yearly.



My question is has anyone heard of this treatment and is it just a marketing gimmick? What about the 5 year warrenty?



I am leaning towards doing it myself with some of the products you discuss often. Clay bar plus a polish.

What does the warranty give you? A new wax job? A new paint job? Who determins if the defect is actually covered under the warranty? Who determins if you've suffered UV damage -- the dealer? And how.



There's got to be some fine print there somewhere because they can't do what it seems like they're doing. How long is the underwriter going to be in business? Long enough to sell 100,000 policies and then disappear?

Boy, you guys are a bunch of cynics. What's to be skeptical about? That the dealer is gonna put something on ur car, and then you don't have to do anything for 5 years? They install those swirls for free, so they don't seem like bad guys.

Once more: the kicker is that everyone forgets about the paint sealant as soon as they hit the door. Everyone. Not one person EVER comes back with a claim. Never. Nobody.



I've been doing F&I for 16 years. Trust me on this one. Better yet, send me $50 and I'll give you the same warranty, but for 10 years. I'll put a set of voodoo bones in the fireplace, and your paint will shine forever.

Would the warranty be worth the paper it's written on if someone did come back?
 
There are pots of gold at the ends of rainbows too. Save youself the aggrivation of the dealer installed swirl option and do it yourself.



Read here for a few weeks, learn what works well (a proven track record), what seems to be a fad (yes there are some), what tools are effective for an amature (I assume this from your post count), check out "Click and Brag" to see what was used and how. Most importantly study the "hows", because preparation is EVERYTHING. Let the Learn button and the Search functions become your best friends. Ask questions if you cannot find it yourself - the only one that is stupid is the one you don't ask. Then buy your tools and products. Your new ride will be fine, as is, for the time you spend researching.
 
LOL . . . this sort of snake oil still exists? WOW! I recall about 15 years ago my Father pursued a similar treatment for his RUF Porsche. If memory serves correct, it was a Teflon sealant with a X-year warranty . . . scratch and contaminant resistant, blah, blah, blah. Naturally I was excited because it got me out of the lengthy detailing routine each Saturday. At first it seemed decent . . . good beading, nice shine. Though after 6 months something strange started to happen. The finishing developed a weird sort of yellowing . . . very similar to on old piece of tape. The aluminum wheels turned yellow, the trim on the spoiler and around the windows turned brown . . . no matter what I did nothing could remove the discoloration. It was awful :mad:
 
Even if this was the "cure all"... What kind of fun is that? Im an autopian... Im a paint touchy feeely kinda guy :).. And if you are here,you gotta have it in ya somewhere!!!

Think about it. If this product really protects for 5 years, then why does the dealer have to reapply it every year? It should be able to be applied once and then protect for 5 years with no other treatment.



I like what one responder said about the dealer giving you some nice swirl marks in the process. So true. Detail your own car yourself. If I can do it (I'm 50 next spring, have a heart problem and weigh over - well, I'm way overweight), then anyone can do it.

This crap is for people who know nothing about detailing and want an easy way out.
