Silver X5 & Yellow H2 HUMMER Details

This truck is basically brand new. My buddy just picked it up and wanted me to give it "The Treatment" before he drove through the winter on the sand & salt covered roads. It didn't require any buffing, so the process was simple. After washing, I used some solvent to remove any left over glue from the plastic protection that the factory put on.



I just got my new order of Jeff's Werkstatt products, so I decided to give it a try using Scottwax's recommended application technique from another post.



I hand applied the prime by hand doing one panel at a time and wiping it off immediately. Next, I applied 2 coats of acrylic jett by hand and after I was done with the 2 coats of AJ I lightly misted each panel with acrylic glos and wiped off with a microfiber towel. All in all I was very happy with the product. My buddy puts on 5K miles a month, so I am curious to see how long this stuff holds up.

This Hummer actually belongs to another buddy of mine. He recently traded in his Audi S4 for it. Overall it was in pretty good shape besides some minor swirls and light scratches. The chrome wheels were in kinda rough shape. They seemed to have some sort of overspray all over them and were actually starting to rust. Must be a cheap set of wheels because the truck doesn't have many miles on it. I did this the same day I did the X5.



Here is my process:



Washed exterior, wheels & wheel wells



Steel wooled the wheels using 000 steel wool with window cleaner to get the rust & overspray off



Sealed the wheels with Jeff's Wekstatt Prime



Buffed exterior with Menzerna Intensive Polish by rotary using polishing pad



Buffed exterior with Final Polish II by rotary using finishing pad



Jeff's Wekstatt Prime by hand



2 coats of Acrylic Jett by hand



Dressed tires with Super Blue dressing

Looks very, very good Rick. Metallic silver gloss is very hard to capture digitally I have found. As good as the pics are, I bet it looks even more incredible in person.



The yellow is very wet on the Hummer. Your friend owes you a beer!
 
Great job as usual Rick. Did you apply the AJ one panel at a time too?



Did you have to tape off the trim on the X5, I can't remember if the Werkstatt products will stain the trim or not.
 
nice work but i'm quite surprised the AJ did not leave the finish more "wet looking." In both vehicles, the finishes simply look "shiny" Hmmm ? could be the lighting or the camera.. cuz i've seen UPP make silver look dripping wet and z2 pro make yellow look dripping wet.. regardless, there are good results but not as spectacular as I was anticipating

The angle and lighting can make a huge difference in how the finish shows on film or digitally. I've taken pics of car that look dripping wet and it just doesn't show well in the pictures. For example, the pics of my brother's van with Z2. Looks good but not nearly as wet as it did in person (pics are on my website). :nixweiss

Both look excellent, Rick! I'd like to hear an update how AJ holds up in the northeast. BTW, I have an H2 to detail in the morning (Werkstatt twins, most likely) and a red one with the same rims as that yellow one to wash in the afternoon. Fun vehicles to do, eh? Not really that bad since they have a lot of flat surfaces.

It could just be that there were light clouds in the sky earlier in the day when I did the X5 as you can see, so the sun shots didn't really show off the wetness. I took the pictures of the Hummer right before it was dark after the sun had gone down and there were also clouds in the sky. My camera probably isn't the best quality either.



I have to say that AJ has great depth and clarity. I recently finished a bright blue Maserati Spyder that came out absolutely insane. I will post up some full sun pictures of it later.

So far I am very pleased with the product all though it isn't the easiest to use, but the results are far worth it.
