Another car I managed to detail over the bank holiday!
Its my girlfriends 3yr old MK4 GTTDI, she got it about a month ago and its not been washed since!!!! :shocked the previous owner took really good care of it there's barley any swirls or maring so i thought it'd be a pretty straight forward job..... well it would have been if it didn't take 3hrs to clay!!
There was loads of road tar stuck round the arches and to the lower 3rd of the car, i think its because it was used for mainly motorway miles.
I used the following steps on the car :
Washed with Megs GC with sheepskin wash mitt
Dried with Pak Shak waffle weave microfibre
Clayed with blue magic fine grade clay bar
Klasse AIO applied with LC white pad removed by hand/microfibre
ClearKote Vanilla Moose Glaze Applied with LC white pad removed by hand/microfibre
4 Star Ultimate Paint Protection applied with LC white pad removed by hand/microfibre
Megs Plastx was used on lights etc
Autoglym rubber and vinyl restorer on..... rubber and vinyl
Meguiars endurance tyre dressing gel
Soapy water on the wheels
When I started the car I was eeger to see how silver turned out, to be honest until the final steps (the ClearKote and UPP) it was very unrewarding to work with as it was difficult to see the results (unlike heavy swirl removal etc) But once the final layers / steps were completed the paint really started to pop and the flake showed though and i got a nice glossy wet finish.
I also found that its very hard to photograph the results of silver!!!! Well I tried and here are the results (had to change a few of the angles to get the light right) :
