silly comments that drive you up the wall....

My friends ask me where/what I do for a job. So, I tell them I detail cars and then they ask how much I charge and such and I tell them. Then they go, "$_______ for WASHING (not washing, detailing *******)! cars?! I can get it at Benny's (car wash chain) for $3!"

Its a mystery why all of the cars from Benny's never look like this, but mine do... :lol

Ok, we all work hard on our cars (when we have time) and REALLY hard on our customer's car. Some of us have shops, some are mobile, etc.

But ALL of us have had people walk by and make comments. My question is what ones drive you nuts? And what do you say back? Are you nice and give a pleasant laugh, or do you fire back with a witty retort?

Some of mine:

-I think you missed a spot.

-Oh you can do my car next.

-Mind if I take her for a spin, I'll get the water off for you.

LOL i got the same when i used to work for Enterprise Rent a Car "washing" their cars

I hate the "you're gonna polish your paint off" comments I get from family, friends, and the soon to be wife... I polish my car once every 6 months (though I wash about 2 to 3 times a week with ONR when home), come on now...

"why don't you use an MF or WV towel?" (because i always use 100% cotton terry towels).

A. don't like the thinness of of the mf wv

B. I don't get the higher price of MFs when what they do is mimic the qualities of a terry towel and terry towels are cheaper.

C. MF & WV take more work in terms of "care" and don't last longer or perform any better than a terry towel

D. why bother?? in a few more months SHAM-WOW is going to dominate the market :lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

The SCAM WOW guy is doing another commercial for some chopping thing right now lol. I cant blame the guy for trying to make an honest living though, he's just an actor.

Another thing I find interesting is when im washing at home, my neighbors stare at me funny if I do a pre soak with a bug sprayer. It doesnt bother me to much but I do enjoy trying to mimic their facial expression untill they catch on and leave lol.

Only after my wife and daughters saw how much work there is in doing a full detail did the comments around the house stop. Maybe we should chain the morons to a post near by and force them to watch.

+1 :chuckle:

more like a silly question...

Can you give me a price over the phone on how much to detail my car?

(Obviously I never saw the car)

A time lapsed video perhaps?

I'm not a pro detailer, but ya'all will get a kick out of this. Last night I was at a neighbors house for dinner and he couldn't wait to show us his new '09 Z06. He took factory delivery and took it directly to a tuner shop. Well it's back....With 625hp and bright yellow paint, this thing screams in more ways than speed. The funny comments came from his wife when he described his detailing process. She's on the side saying "clay bar, and everything", "and of course we had to wash it AGAIN after the clay". She thought he was crazy; I was proud. I didn't ask what his LSP was but when I get a chance I will. I swear you could turn out the light in the garage and still read a book next to this car.
