silly comments that drive you up the wall....

Ok, we all work hard on our cars (when we have time) and REALLY hard on our customer's car. Some of us have shops, some are mobile, etc.

But ALL of us have had people walk by and make comments. My question is what ones drive you nuts? And what do you say back? Are you nice and give a pleasant laugh, or do you fire back with a witty retort?

Some of mine:

-I think you missed a spot.

-Oh you can do my car next.

-Mind if I take her for a spin, I'll get the water off for you.

Uh-hyuk yuk yuk... YOU'RE STILL HERE?!? :sadpace:

No. I am a clone. Kevin left hours ago. :angry

I also love the guy walking by, tooth-picking his food laden teeth...

He blurts, "How much you charge?"

After I respond with a quick price, he responds, "HOW MUCH?!?!"

Obviously, I am dealing with a guy that knows how to grind for the deal.

One time I was washing a Corvette in Corona Del Mar, CA (mobile).

So, there's a few people across the street on a second story balcony.

Finally, after I had shut my generator off, one of three asks,

"How much you sprayin' for?"

Well, back then, I think a car wash was something like twenty bucks.

So I yell back, "Twenty bucks!"

The obviously detail-oriented dope yells back, "For the whole house?!"

Of course, I had to reply, "For what house?! I'm washing this 'Vette!"

His reply? (probably too much sun and too much bottled fun)

"OH! I thought you were spraying for ants!"

Man, his friends looked at him like he was from another planet.

So did I.:nixweiss

"I should get one of those, do you think I could borrow yours?"

My neighbor asking to borrow my polisher as he brushes his fender with the metal hose end. Yeah right, I DON'T lend my tools. I'm actually running out of excuses to tell him, I thought he'd have picked up on my hate vibes by now. I offered to do his truck, but he declined.

Them: "I can get it done cheaper at xyz."

Me: "Well take it there, let them mess it up worse than it already is and when you bring it back the price will be more."

Them: "How come it will be more?"

Me: "Because I will have to fix their mistakes too."

When people think waxing is the same thing as polishing and vice versa. Comments related to that are the only thing that usually strike a chord with me.

i agree most with finaltheorem and extremeclean. people have seen the final result of a couple cars i've done, or seen pictures i've sent them (at their request), and are truly impressed. then they hear pricing and they act suprised. now i'm no big autopian pro by any means, and i surely don't claim to be, but i feel my work is justified with the equipments / tools / technique / time used. of course i know this is a common thing - especially for the pro's that are some of the best around.

my old boss at the dealership would always say " oh thats a one step" lol i hated that crap! seriously it would get me so fired up!

when you wash your car and someone says, "are you going to do mine next"? a good answer would be, "sure, i can use the extra money".

I just wear earphones and listen to music whenever I go out to clean my car. Even if somebody did have something to say I don't hear it and don't pay attention.

#1 my van say's " mobile detail" and some fools ask me if i do grills (gold teeth)

lmfao it says detail not dental stay in school!!!

#2 when im not done yet and they ask me about a spot i did not even get to yet like i forgot about it ( just happened 2 hours ago)

You are going to wax the paint off of that car.

I get that a lot (while I'm polishing the car). And most of the time they're serious too...

Or "you just need to know what color car to get next time. I haven't polished my car in [insert number of decades here] and it still looks like the day I bought it!" while pointing at their oxidized paint...

most of the time, it's the people who have crappy cars and are jealous because their's don't look nice. some people just can't mind their own business, and try to make others feel bad to compensate for their lack of having nice things to make them feel better...

"The wax really made it look good".

Never mind the hours of prep work

"That colored wax on tv will get the scratches out"

Gotta love how reliable the as seen on tv detailing products work. I'm thinking of trading in my pc and rotary for the new 1/2 pound AA battery operated polisher.

"You should be able to get it done it two hours...two hours..."

Says the used car salesman of a trashed farm use suburban...

Most comments are pleasant and appreciated though...
