Silicones vs. Waterbased Products

So I always here silicone products are bad for tires, dash, rubber, etc..... and waterbased products are better. Why? Or are they really. Would like to hear the pro's and con's of each.

There are different kinds of silicone, some are water base. Almost all car waxes and protectents have some sort of silicone in them.
