Should Raggtopp bead water on cloth?

I bought the cloth Raggtopp kit for my car. I washed the fabric with the cleaner using a soft brush, let it dry, then used a lint roller to get any remaining lint off the roof. Once that was done, I sprayed 4 coats of the protectant on, with about 15 minutes between coats. The car was parked in the sun while applying.

My question is... how "waterproof" should the protectant make the fabric?

I noticed after a rain, the fabric still looked wet, with only some slight beading (very small water beads) on top. Is this normal, or for some reason did I not apply the protectant correctly?

Depends on the material and how it absorbed the Ragg Topp but you did the right thing and the amount of water beading is not always an indicator of protection. I wouldn't worry about it

RaggTopp is extremely water repellant. If your top isn't beading I would say it needs another application. I'm curious why it's not beading like crazy after you applied four coats of it.:hmmm:

Got any pictures?

I can try to get some pictures of the top wet to show what I'm talking about.

I did apply it in my driveway for the added sun-drying instead of in my garage. There wasn't really any breeze, and I applied using the directions provided including the spray distance. But I notices the spray didn't look like it was soaking into the top.

I wonder if most of the spray just blew away on the wind and not much got on my top, even after four coats. I might have another 1, maybe 2 coats left in the can. I'll reclean the top and use up the rest.

...which actually leads me to another question:

Should I use the Raggtopp cleaner every time I wash the car? I have tons left. Or would that just wash out the protectant faster?

If treated properly, you should only need to wash with plain water or maybe car wash soap if needed. The cleaner will probably strip the protectant off.

Did you wait until the top was dry before applying the protectant?

Well, I haven't had a chance to shoot any pictures of the car wet. But out of curiosity I called up the number on Raggtopp's (Wolfstein's) website.

First, the phone was answered by a real person after 1 ring. Second, the person was able to answer my questions... and was very friendly and helpful.

I was told that there will be some beading, but the water will also make the fabric look wet. This is because of the nature of the fabric and that it needs to breathe. He told me what I described is normal, and suggested using up the rest of the protectant just to be sure. (Do it after heating up the top in the sun.)

Another thing he mentioned was not over-cleaning the top. Since I drive the car only on nice days (usually weekends) and garage it, he says do a full clean and reapply the protectant once a year. Between cleanings, just vacuum or use a lint roller. And yes, the Raggtopp cleaner will remove the protectant.
