Should I SELL This??? (vintage stereo)

Dave N

My PC goes to 7...
Should I sell this? Will I hate myself in the morning?

Yamaha M-80 power amp (250+ watts of unadulterated class A power per channel!) :bow

Yamaha C-60 preamp

Yamaha GE-60 equalizer w/spectrum analyzer & pink noise generator

A stupid timer and a cassette deck that doesn't turn

Almost unbelievably, I came across this 80's dream system for free at a yard sale a couple of years back. Due to a new house and remodeling, it has been in storage ever since I got it. I hooked everything up just to make sure it all worked (it all did, but the tape deck wouldn't turn), and it's been sitting in storage ever since. This was my dream system when I was in high school, but now that I have it I'm not sure I would ever get full use out of it. So I've been thinking of selling it to get money to buy an NAD all-in-one receiver/DVD/CD player. I feel fine parting with this Yamaha system right now, but how will I feel in 5 years? Will I be saying "My God, what did I do?!?! :scared: It was in my possession and I actually let it go!!!"

What do you want for it?

Umm, you don't understand....you're s'posed to talk me into keeping it. :D

Seriously, I've looked the components up on eBay, but I haven't put much thought into how much I'd want for it. Right now I'm not interested in shipping it because the power amp weighs over 50 lbs by itself. If I decide to sell, I'll try locally first.

I am not sure you are sitting on a future classic HiFi system. The amp is probably class A/B as 250 watts Class A would be enough to keep at least one house very warm.

If your happy with the sound quality, keep it. But will you regret selling a mass produced equaliser etc in 5 years - no, at least not in commercial terms.

.....but my knowledge of Yamaha equipment is very low

You answered your own question. I would keep everything even if it sits for years. My father is having his old Sansui 771 stereo receiver fixed after letting it sit for over 11 years. I actually used this receiver when I was growing up. Granet, this has family value compared to your garage sale stuff, but I think you get the point.

wow, that amp and preamp are the exact ones I drooled over myself 15-18 years ago! I could never save up the cash for them though :(
