Shop vac probelm

I was doing a detail earlier and half way through the vaccuuming, the shop-vac shut off and wouldnt come back on. I know it wasn't the generator b/c my pc worked fine. I inspected the shop vac and i noticed that i forget to put the cartridge back in b/c i cleaned it the night before. could this be the problem?
i just bought the shop vac last month.....no clue

It sounds like it may have shut down from over heating....let it cool stick the cartadge back in and try again....Hard to believe that you messed it up that bad.

if you bought it a month ago, i would exchange it for a new one. try putting the cartridge back in and if gives a hint of trouble, bring it back.
