Shine Type: rippled vs smooth. How? (Newbie)

Hi,



Looking closely at cars with a great looking shine, I notice about

half have a rippled "wet-look" reflection of objects, and the other

half, a smooth harder looking glass-like reflection of objects. Do

people get the look they prefer more by the nature of the polish/

wax/sealant, or by the application method?



You can tell I'm really new to this.

The effect you are seeing actually has nothing at all to do with products, but instead is a case of either a good or lousy paintjob. The effect is called "orange peel" and is actually extremely common on all cars. It just depends on how bad it is.



Do a Titles search on "orange peel" and you should turn up enough info right there. :)

I like your expression for orange peel "rippled wet-look" but it is not a desirable condition.

As 4DSC mentioned the "orange peel" effect that you see is becoming more common new cars coming off the lot

Sorry to say there is not much you can do about it with a new car.

We will just have to start accepting it :mad:

Never imagined the "ripple" could be the paint itself. The term

"orange peel" is way better for this effect. I did the forum search

- very interesting and kind of sad if it's a trend in new vehicles.
