Shelving??

How good are you with wood? I took a sheet of 3/4 exterior plywood, ripped it down to just under 16 inches (3 lengths). Then used 2x3s as support for the plywood (box the plywood pannel). Then stacked the pannels so I could fit my boxes between the shelves and lag screw 2x3s on the ends as supports. Ended up with a 16 inch wide, roughly 5 ft tall, 8 ft long shelving unit. Also used a scrap piece of 1x2 as a diagonal brace to keep it from racking. Not sure if I have any pictures????

Here is what I got and how I put it all together.

LOL Thanks, it was white when I moved in. ;) The other side of the basement looks better.

Just a few. LOL

Im surprised it was painted!! The houses abi and I looked at (a lot of them) were all the dreary michigan basements...you know the nice grey cement look with ceilings that are about 6 foot high...

My parents basement is finished with carpet, paneled walls, bedroom, pc room, bathroom, and tv room. LOL You should see some of the new homes I get to see all the time. The poured walls are so much better, imo, and make for a much cleaner look on the inside. Plus a lot of these people are making the basement the main entertainment area. However, when I go to look for a new house, give me a big garage over a cool basement. ;)

Im spoiled where I live now...the basement is completly finished except for the woodshop and a storage room. Bedroom, bathroom, "living room" and dining room...and a nice 2.5 stall to work out of ;)

Oh the joys of living with family.

not yet...I have a few loose ends to wrap up before we venture across the country...again...I should have stayed on the west coast in the first place, it would have been a shorter drive to WA. St. :D

We are outta here July next year...just after I recieve my nice vacation check from work :D and enjoy one more nice summer by lake michigan.

The wife and I live with my parents while I was in college. they had a new house being built when we moved up here and they finished off the basement with our own bathroom, bedroom, living room, dining room, and a little kitchenette, and they get out of the way when I detail in the garage :up.

I like Michigan...in the summer time :D

I will have to fly back for the Xceed BBQ...and I suppose visit family while im here :D

Since this popped up...and since I didn't see it mentioned... when looking for shelving, check your yellow pages for commercial shelving dealers who offer used units. There's a lot of guys who buy large lots of rivet rack and others at auction and resell them. I have a bunch and it's great shelving...cost less than the HoDo/Lowes units and twice the strength.
