Sheeting vs beading comparison

I have about 30 minutes to kill before I need to head to a customer's house, so I figured I would put the time to good use and post this before I left. ;)

I and a few others have noticed how well Poorboy's EX-P Sealant sheets when you blast it with water vs most products that bead. I have a customer who wants me to use his pressure washer and water deionizer when I clean their cars at their office/warehouse so that presents me with a weekly opportunity to see how various products bead as time goes on. For that reason, I tend to use different products on the various cars that are there.

Here is a Silverado SS I used the Wolfgang twins on. I simply washed the hood then blasted water at full force on the hood, waited about 30 seconds then snapped the picture.

This is a BMW 745Li with Vanilla Moose and EX-P. Same routine, washed the hood then blasted it with water, waited 30 seconds and took a pic. Notice the difference?

Now obviously, just because of sheeting vs beading, this doesn't mean EX-P is better than Wolfgang or vice-versus. I just thought it was interesting how different products react to a strong force of water.

Huge difference.

This is very similar to what I see on our cars. I am not certain I know how to interpret which is "better".

I noticed exactly what you describe with VM / EX-P when washing my daily driver.

What's cool to me is that NXT wash seems to make it sheet even more. I swear the car practically dries itself when I use NXT wash.

Yesterday, I just washed the same car with WG Auto Bathe. Although it still sheets like you describe, it doesn't do it to the extent that it does when I wash with NXT.

Anyway, I just find it curious (and cool) that mixing and matching washes and protection choices can yield such different behavior.

But of course, sheeting is much more desirable than beading, don't you think?

It certainly cuts down on drying time. Funny thing though, EX-P beads normally when it rains. I have it on my car (3 weeks since last application) and it beaded like crazy during last night's storms.

Oh well, I'm off to detail an I-30! :wavey

Are the slopes of the hoods the same? Next time you get a chance, do the same vehicle with the other products, then the comparison will be independant of the vehicle used and a fair comparison of the products used.....

Just a thought and not a flame

Since this behavior is being observed while washing the car (as opposed to driving in the rain), sheeting is 'better', IMHO.

When I'm drying the car after washing, I like sheeting better as it leaves very little water for you to actually pull off the car. With VM / EX-P / NXT wash on my daily driver, I dry the car in under 2 min. with one WW 20x36 and I don't even come close to having to wring out the towel.

However, I'm not sure I would want water to sheet when I'm driving.

Happily, VM / EX-P seems to sheet when washing and bead in the rain. :D

from a drying time perspective, sheeting is certainly better. My comment was directed at which product is offering more/better protection, the sheeter or the beader

Sorry, my comment was directed to Scottwax, not you. Your reply popped up earlier as I was writing my message to him! :o

Good point but I think near the windshield the Bimmer appears to be relatively flat and still sheeted well.

Funny that you should say that. Afternoon shower yesterday here in Florida, and I mean it poured. I'd bragged about Wolfgang to my boss and he took the Pre-Wax and Sealant home and used on his Sequoia over Memorial Day weekend. After the shower we were looking out the front door where his truck was parked. "Look at the beading," he said. "Amazing." New convert!

The slopes are very similar. I have noticed the sheeting with every vehicle I have used EX-P on. I have never used a product that sheets so quickly with full force spraying. Pretty much any wax or sealant will sheet when you remove the nozzle and slowly run water over it.

Again, this isn't a comparison about which product is better, just a direct example vs another product (and I could have used anything, just so happened this one had Wolfgang and the white Expidition with #20/#16 I also did the same day at this office does not show beading real) how under the same conditions EX-P will outsheet anything I have used.

Scott, just curious, how does the EX-P compare to Zaino Z-5 as far as durability is concerned?

Never used Zaino so I can't comment on its durability. EX-P is going good so far (I've had it on a few cars almost 3 months now).

That's great, is there anything fancy I need to buy/do if I want to try EX-P? Do I just need a bottle of that, and clay/wash before applying?

I have noticed that EX-P sheets as well. No problem, as I will probably be putting on another coat of it on the black cavalier I did, and then top it a few weeks after that with some liquid souveran.

I've noticed that most sealants, after the first few weeks, seem to resort to sheeting. Blackfire included.

It is a last step product, so if you need to do any polishing you will have to use something else first. I normally use it with Vanilla Moose or Poorboy's Polish w/carnauba (PwC).
