sheepskin wash mitt ?

I was in Wal mart the other day and saw these on display. I was wondering if anyone has used or still does use these for washing? Are they a safe way to washing without scratching? They seem soft enough to not scratch.

I use the Walmart sheep skin mitts with no problems. You do need to check through all the mitts to pick the best (soft with a deep thick pile), being a natural product they do vary a lot from mitt to mitt.

Good luck!

dunno...sorry.

The eurow sheepskins have always been considered a fair value and they do (did?) come from Walmart.

EUROW from Walmart = :up

Baja Sol from Target = :up

Like Redondo said, you do need to pick through because I have also noticed vast differences from mitt to mitt.

Well, they did feel very plush, but i don't have any experience with wash mits, so i don't have much to compare it with. Guess i will look around, maybe stick with the sponge.

Just try to pick out nice ones. Unless you get an especially coarse/bad one, IMO it's more a matter of *how* you use a mitt than anything else. If you press dirt against the paint it doesn't matter if you're using a mitt or a sponge or your hand; you're still gonna mar the finish ;)

So, really i could stick with the sponge and the results should be the same - if i am using it properly (little pressure) ?

So, they are that much better for the paint ? Also, how do i care for it in terms of keeping it clean - can i toss it in the laundry ?

No, ditch the sponge and get a good sheepskin mitt.

I'll second that :bow

A sheepskin mitt will rinse out more cleanly than the average synthetic sponge. Better rinsing --> less dirt being scraped against your paint as you wash.

Lots of great information on sheepskin mitts on these forums. Definitely "pick them like fruit" : go through every one at the shelf and pick only the softest. If none "quite cut it" ( can happen ast times) don't chance it, come back another time or to another store. I always wash them first beforte use just as with mfs.

Yep just drop them into the washer. No fabric softner etc, use a little distilled vinegar in the rinse as a rinse aid if you want. Also if you want them to last a long time, do NOT leave soak them or leave them wet for long periods. Wash, hang dry or put in the dryer on moderate heat on 'less dry' setting then hang. This works for me.

93zder- I don't see the sponge as being as "yielding" as the fibers of the mitts. I just don't see being able to use the sponge without inflicting some marring, but then you gotta remember that I'm awfully over-the-top when it comes to wash technique.

It's sorta surprising how cleanly the mitts rinse out. But I still keep a bunch of them on hand in case one *doesn't* rinse clean. I've machine-washed mine in Woolite as needed and it seemed to work fine. When they dry, the inner lining will get very stiff, but it'll soften up again once you get it wet.

93zder,

Go with the advice of the pros on this one. I have marred a car with a sponge that had grit in it. I switched to quality sheepskin mitts and have never looked back. I also use Woolite or Zero to wash and have never had a problem. You'll be amazed at how fast you can wash and the job a mitt does. I find it can get into many of the nooks and crannies that a sponge can't. Even if it can sponges can often tear and get caught.

Good luck with your search!

Paul

I don't see any need for machine washing of mitts. Once I've finished washing my car, I hand wash the mitts in my bucket of shampoo then rinse them.

I do use different mitts for different purposes, though. For example, I have one for cleaning brake rotors that I wouldn't ever use on paint.
