Shampooing carpets? The deifinite way?

How many of you guys actually soak carpets with a foam gun and then sucking all the water out with a wet/vac? Is this the real way of doing some deep cleaning and removing odors out of carpets?

This is how my process goes:

1. Brush the carpets till all the debris are loosen up

2. Vacuum the debris

3. Pre-treat with Folex and let sit for 5-10 minutes

4. Spray APC+

5. Brush with PC + Carpet Brush

6. Deep clean with the Bissell

7. Vacuum all excessive water

Also, I see a lot of people finishing it with horizontal or vertical shapes on the carpet after they're done. How do you do that?

I dont pre soak...I brush, vacuum, brush, vacuum then extract...now that I think about it I guess I kind of do pretreat...I'll spray APC or 303 Carpetcleaner on first then extract....and you have to alternate passes...forward then backward....I used to landscape/cut grass and its the same with with striping a lawn...same tech. applies

Now that I have a steamer. I have been shampooing carpet a bit different. As always I try not to get the material too wet. That's the biggest mistake you can make. Second, is to get it soaked, and then not pull all the water out. My best method for carpet has been lightly spray with apc, agitate, extract. For cloth seating. Apply apc lightly, agitate. steam with cloth attachment for steamer. Vac

So I take it its bad to soak the carpet in water...

My method only tried this once..

Vacuum Carpet

Spray APC+

Scrub with a Brush

Rinse carpet with hose

Then suck out all the water with this Bissell Little Green Compact Multipurpose Deep Cleaner: Sustainable is Good Eco Products

Please correct me if I am wrong or you see how I can improve. And from when I did it.. seems like the last step is what did 80% of the cleaning.. After I scrubbed with a brush after APC didnt see much a difference.. But After I thoroughly soaked the carpet with the hose then extracted the water with the little green machine the water was coming up pitch black and that seem to do almost all the cleaning.. APC didnt help much or atleast not that I could see..

Are you talking interior FLOOR carpets that are not removed from the car or Floor-MAT carpets that are removed??

Mats can be hosed off IF they are that dirty; in fact some pro detailers suggest using a power washer to clean them.

I think though you are talking about interior floor carpets that are not removed. Hosing them (hence, soaking them) is a BAD idea because you can never really get them dry and are then subject to promoting the growth of mold and mildew, especially if you live where it's warm and humid.

The "pitch black water" may actually be the backing coming through the fibers now that it's soaked. Was the carpet "dirty black" (Like from tar or blacktop sealants) before you started washing them?? If not, it might be the backing, especially on less expensive car's carpets.

For Floor mats:

Vacuum

Spot-spray folex

mix up carpet shampoo and 1/2 to 1 gallon of water.

using my carpet adapter for my Flex, I dunk it in the bucket, then drizzle the shampoo onto the floor mat. Do this about 4-6 times.

Attach carpet adapter to the Flex, then run it back/forth/around the edges about 3 times on level 2.

Wipe off foam with terry towel

Extract

(To make the lines in the carpet, simply shut the water off, and vacuum from one edge to the other, alternating between a pull and a push every other line. Think of it like cutting the grass.)

Yea I was talking about the floor mats not the actual carpet in the car. For that I just use a brush and APC + I would never take a hose to the interior carpet of the car lol.

I do the same method for the mats.

Spray, let sit & scrub. Hose off and vacuum when done. I

have only used Folex. I see no need for anything else.
