Shampoo/Wash Recommendations

It sounds so good - why would we need 118SC? http://www.fk1usa.com/products-consumer.htm#118 Does anyone else have a 1016 experience?

I was initially more interested in 1016 as it stated that is add/provides a polymer protection when washing your car. I assume that is similar to the 1Z Perls. However, I just thought that since I when I wash the car, I am going to follow up with a minimum of QD or spray sealant or otherwise I will follow-up with AIO+LSP, that why use a shampoo that contains something that I will be applying post drying. Yes, it might save the QD step, but I figured that I would apply QD or spray sealant after every wash anyways, just in case I got sloppy in the drying process. To that end, I figured that any combination function product, in this case wash and wax, would sacrifice some level of function that a pure specialized product has. In looking at the rating scales on the FK1 website, you lose a lot of cleaning power and some degreasing. I am not saying that that's a deal breaker, but I am leaning towards a pure shampoo, like 118 or Poorboy's SS&S for that reason. I am looking to clean the car safely and will apply a QD or sealant afterwards.

I dunno if applying polymers to the front windshield will have any sheeting effects similar to RainX. But to that end, I do like RainX when it's first applied, but after a while, I notice that it streaks and adds glare to the windshield at night when I used it on my old car. I assume that's why they recommend against using AIO on the front windshield. I figured that it that's the case, I would stay away from a wash with a polymer sealant just to be sure. But, I already do have some 1Z Perls, but haven't used it yet. So we'll see.

My current two faves are Poorboys Super Slick & Suds and Zaino Z-7. P21S and 1Z Exclusiv are classic choices as well.

I do want to try Poorboy's SS&S. I already have 1Z Exclusiv. Just feels like I'm wasting if I buy more products that I already have similar products from other brands. I guess I can always give some away to friends, or other forum members (but shipping might make it not worth it).

Hey, are you yESman on the ClubLexus forums?

I'm wanting to try Optimum Car Wash (Reformulated) or TOL Bubble Bath.

Hopefully, it's been reformulated since December when I bought mine because it didn't exactly knock my socks off I'm sorry to report.

Bubble Bath's good stuff...me likey

i was curious.... for an otc car wash, has anyone used this?

The reformulated DP AutoBath is my favorite wash. Its the only wash Ive used that leaves my paint super slick, AND doesnt make my hands dry or rough after each wash. Ive used 1z Perls, Zaino Z7, and PB SS&S. They all leave the paint very slick and clean, but they are much more harsh on the hands, so I imagine that they are harsher on the paint as well.

I gotta admit that I just knee-jerk about products that claim to use Teflon for things where it can't possibly be a meaningful ingredient; I generally avoid stuff that seems geared towards suckering the gullible as I figure that good products don't need to do that. Which doesn't mean it might not be as good as any other wash in that category though :nixweiss

The info I got from FK1 leads me to think that 146 might be more comparable to PB SnW. No need to compare to 425, 425 doesnt not have the cleaning ability that 146 is supposed to have. I guess you could compare slickness because 146 is supposed to leave a shine. Any info about 146 would be good... other then whats on the website.

Thanks!

Just got my order from FK1, which included #146, back order on 1016 shampoo, and some SSP. The later (ssp) was to be used with QEW, and for me to see if there was any advantage over the current qd I spike QEW with vs. having to go purchase Optimum Waterless wash.

#146 is a good cleaner, that leaves a very nice shine which is deep and glossy. I pressed the issue with its cleaning ability by cleaning my SUV that had been through some rain and used a lot of MF towels. It handled the grime very easily. Other QD's I have used have been the CG line, Adams, PB, and this one definitly cleans. Bottle says it could remove light oxidation. I have none, so I cannot confirm this. I used it on my windows and for me, it was like using OCW on glass....need to buff a bit. Certainly not as easy on glass as #425, which I have found easily removes finger prints. I found no streak issues, but my car has been properly maintained with other products in the FK1 line, so maybe that has something to do with it. Each product builds, compliments each other.

If I were to compare it to the CG Synthetic or DS w/nuba, #146 wins hands down as far as cleaning ability and the gloss/shine factor. Follow up with some #425 and you have yourself one nice looking auto.

CG DSw/nuba just streaks to much for me, even when cut with RO water.

CG Sythn QD is not far behind #146, but lacks cleaning power.

Now, I cleaned my other car using QEW and put two capfuls of SSP in both buckets.

In comparison, I have dumped CG Synthetic and Adams into some QEW and achieved very nice results. Enough to keep me content and not go out and by all the newer waterless washes out there.

SSP advantage was that it seemed to make the car look like i just #425

it, but all I did was dry it after washing it. It also seemed to add a bit of slickness while washing the car and made the mitt glide on the surface with less friction if you will.

I hope that FK1 re-introduces SSP, because I think it has a place in any enthusiast, pro-detailer arsenal, especially when it comes to Waterless washes like QEW which I think is awesome, but now can benifit and get a boost with a product like SSP.

My next test with SSP will be to use it after washing a car with my foam gun, and then spraying it on the vehicle while wet, and drying. Another technique I use with a QD as I know you may as well.

Just my experience, take it for what its worth and have fun detailing.

Since you mentioned TW, the Platinum soap is supposed to be good, it's pretty cheap at Costco also.

just bought a 2 pack (64oz) of the turtle wax platinum series ultra gloss car wash & conditioner for $6.41 at sams club. one heck of a deal!

I also tried the turtle wax platinum series ultra gloss car wash & conditioner for $6.41 at sams club. It is very much like the zymol auto-wash (blue), which is also made by TW. It has a good fragrance, great suds that last and doesn't seem to strip the wax. Can't get much better than that, especially for th price!

i was just going to comment on this. i just used it for the first time (just bought it today and didn't have high expectations as i'm very picky), and it kept nice rich long suds and cleaned very well. i've used many otc car wash's (gc, nxt, eo1, mothers, etc..) and this (especially for the price) is very hard to beat (two 64oz bottles for $6.41)! i may go to sams club this weekend and pick up another 2 pack. this may be my go to car wash for a while, i'm impressed... :up

I used some last week. My coworker had some and let me use it.

The Dupont makes a lot of suds in the bucket but doesn't seem to carry over onto the car. The liquid itself is pretty thin. It's fine but not my preference for my money. I prefer NXT, GC.
