Got a brand new car 6 months ago.

Used AIO applied by machine, then 2 coats of SG

Have been "topping up" the SG with Sonus Acrylic Glanz.

Now its been 6 months if I want to start again do I just give it a good coat of AIO by machine then put the 2 coats of SG back on again ? (Surface has a few swirl marks but is still silky smooth so would not need clay bar)

If you want to "start again", you would want to strip the car of the SG that's on it. I would try using Dawn and then a clay bar to strip the wax. This way you can start on a new surface. Then do your thing with the AIO and SG. I don't know about your conditions (garaged/not garaged, lots of dirt/no dirt), but I think that 6 months may be a bit too long between your applications? Is the water beading nicely? Good luck!

I think you can take everything off with AIO (hand or machine). It is a cleaner after all. I do AIO and then 2 or 3 coats of SG spaced 12 hours apart. If time is important, you can ues Werkstats Jett/Trigger which cures in only an hour or two. Very similar in looks to SG (don't know yet if it is as durable however) and perhaps a bit easier to apply as it comes in a spray bottle and is used very much like a QD.

i thought that dawn was a "no-no"

Dawn is a no-no. It's an old school idea that isn't needed anymore. It strips paint beyond what is neccesary, and dries out trim and seals.
