Setting up "packages"

While cart pricing is cumbersome, it can be used to add

value to your packages. Are you sure that you don't want my

Gold package? It is going to save you money, and you get more services.

That is why I like alacarte pricing. What if they want the base detail,

but want to add on extra carpet extraction or interior protectant?

Carte pricing makes this easy.

I want the customer to have a list of additional services.

As they look at my menu, I want them to say "oh that sounds great".

This is better than an up sell, because it is customer prompted.

They feel better about their decision this way. "That was such a good idea

to get that paste wax upgrade, it looks great." Now the customer

had gained personal pride in their decision making skills.

I want my customers bragging to other potential clients about how

they chose to add on the X service or Y upgrade, and it made the

biggest difference.

My thoughts exactly Bunkeroo26.   Its a no brainer for the customer to upgrade a service when a single item they want automatically puts them at the price point of the higher priced package.  In the I.T world this is called "VALUE ADDED".   They get the single item they want PLUS all the other items also.  And doing so will probably make them feel like they got a bargin.  Who doesnt like a bargin?

great linked post.

Customers get fixated on price, which is why packages are

important to sell to them.   Package price is how they compare

you to competition.

Ala Carte services is how you set yourself aside from the competition.

Think of you offer mechanical services.  Oil and belt changes

plus other regular maintenance.   Now you have saved them time.

If you are detailing exotic cars, the most valuable thing that people have

is time.   The value here is immense.

Why not find a mechanic who makes house calls, and work out a

mutually beneficial agreement?   I have made a partnership with a

Makeready guy because he does headliner repair and other things

that I don't want to mess with.   If you add in the people that ask him

about details (which he doesn't do),  then it's a win win.

I don't see carte services scaring a customer away, as long as you have

packages for them to focus on. This also gives you a reference for

comparison.  My package starting at 80 bucks is really worth

150. They can see the services price, hence seeing the value of package.

Also, why give coupons for 15 of 20 percent off?  Give a coupon for

a free 15 dollar Ala carte service with any package detail.   This is a

simpler way to protect your profits.

This is a bigger topic than Yes or No to Carte pricing.

Whatever you decide, that is the right decision for your business.

Good thing is that you can always change.
