SEPC & PC, What Speed?

I'm about to start using a PC to apply SEPC and I needed a little help.

I want to remove some light surface scratches from the clear coat and was wondering what speed I should run at. I'm using the Griots Polishing Pad to apply the SEPC.

I know SEPC isn't a strong polish so I assume I have to run a higher speed to do any work on the paint. Suggestions on Speed?

MBZ 500E. I don't use something like SEPC to remove some lihgt surface scratches.

When I use the PC with some 3M Imperial Microfinishing Compound (medium cut) or with some FI II, I really weigh down on the thing with heavy pressure to work the polish in. I do this at 5 and lighten up and go faster at 6 until the polishes hazes/worked in.

I usually spread SEPC at like 4 for the glazing properties. I can see it removing really "light" scratches at 5/6 with moderate pressure and a few passes. Make sure you remove the fillers after using SEPC though.

Thanks Jason:xyxthumbs

I'm hoping the SEPC will do the job since that's all I have at the moment. I tried it by hand yesterday and it filled/removed 80 % of the scratches but a few remained which is why I'm trying the PC. If this doesn't work I'll buy some Megs #9 which should do the job.

It's funny, the scratches always existed but were hidden with the fillers. I clayed Thursday night and they all came back to haunt me so I decided I need to remove them instead of covering them. I'll post my findings.

Thanks again.

If you want to remove them try some 3M Machine Glaze, Its a notch above #9 2.0 but leaves a finer finish than DACP.

I tried #9 on a red suburban with light/moderate swirling and it did little to remove/fill swirls but make the paint redder, so I broke out the FI II and removed some of the swirls while some heavier ones remained. Same story with a black Porsche 944 instead used 3M medium cut RC followed by #9 to blacken the paint. It did fill/round some swirls.

I would place #9 2.0 on a cutting scale of 3.5 with SEPC at 2. 3M PI III MG I would place at 5/6.

I think the 3M PI III is best for your situation. You are actually removing them and not filling them or rounding and filling them as with the #9 and SEPC.

Ive never had any finishes other than perfect with DACP.

In fact if anything DACP leaves a BETTER finish than 2.0 as it actually does something about the fine scratches and swirls.

I havnt used Machine Glaze as its more expensive and I like the diminishing abrasives in Megs products.

Just my experience ..... tho I've done quite a few dozen cars with DACP now.

My 2.0 is relegated to window duty.

My experience has been the opposite. I tried DACP a couple of times, and returned it to the store. It caked my pads quickly, left major haze, and did little to the swirls on the car. I seem to be the exception rather than the rule, though, as others get good results with DACP.

3M Machine Glaze remains my workhorse polish; the lack of fillers, ease-of-use, and excellent final gloss rate a big :up. To each his own, I guess . . .

BTW, 3M Machine Glaze does use diminishing abrasives.

Didn't mean to start a debate with this topic. :D

To be honest I've had good luck with nearly every product I've ever used including Meguiars and 3M Polishes I guess it depends on what you're trying to achieve.

Well I just finished using the SEPC with the PC at speed setting 5. I did apply a good deal of pressure with several passes in certain areas to achieve the results I wanted.:up The scratches have dissappeared and I even managed to remove/hide deeper scratches which really surprised me. I guess the only thing I'm unsure of is if the SEPC filled the scratches or removed them.

The car looks better than ever, thanks everyone for your help and guidance.:xyxthumbs

Now for a couple coats of S100 Carnaube and some Final Detail to finish it off.:wavey

I though thats what it was. I use SEPC For Finishs that are all ready prepped to remove those spider webs and stuff then just top with S100.
