Sema 2022

Yea 2 part coating with hardener such as 30 mls coating plus 10 mil of harden that has to be premixed before coating. Like bondo. I would like to try

SEMA has always been an industry-only show, not open to the general public. However, I was looking at the SEMA teaser thread on the Meguiar`s forum, and they mentioned that for Friday (the show is Tuesday-Friday), there are a "limited number" of enthusiast tickets that can be purchased. Is this new, the first year they are doing this?

I know usually trade shows of this type are Tues-Thurs, but it seems SEMA has been 4 days since at least 2019 (there was no show in 2020), so I don`t know if it`s always been 4 days, or if they added that day for the general public. If that day is a "general public" day, it wouldn`t surprise me if half the exhibitors bail out after Thursday.

I`m looking forward to the new 20H, 140 degree contact angle, NASA Fusion Lava glove compartment coating containing Sio2, Diamond, Ti and Element 115 that is good for 50 years and 1,000 scrub tests.

Past 3 years at least have been open to public on Fridays, dunno about previous. We head out on Monday for Tuesday thru Thursday.

I notice that the Optimum factory store is out of their tire coating (Optimum Tire Protection & Coating), and it`s also out of stock here at the Autopia store. I don`t know how long that`s been the case, and whether it`s just coincidence, or because they are discontinuing it...or if a new version is going to be announced at SEMA this week.

Well, Meguiar`s has their new products out, no details yet but a picture of the 3 bottles...

Ultimate Insane Shine Paint Glosser, which seems to be some sort of spray glaze
Hot Rims Black Wheel Cleaner
Hybrid Ceramic Tire Shine

I`m patting myself on the back for my sleuthing skills, Optimum store now shows "The New & Improved Optimum Tire Protection and Coating" that is "now easier to apply and has better self-leveling properties".

PS They also are showing a "New & Improved Optimum Gelcoat Restorer" that is "easier to apply and levels itself better" which is hysterically funny to me because I bought the gelcoat restorer a few years ago to try on some faded clearcoat, and since I had a quart of it, and it seemed an awful lot like tire coating, I tried it that way and have been using it ever since (as a tire coating). So some vindication for me about the apparent kinship of these two products. I`m going to presume that there are some differences between the two...but maybe not.

Most of those Griots products make sense, but there are a couple head scratchers for me.

- That small polisher doesn`t look like it would be that usable. The adjustable head looks nice, but I`d think the length of the that moving part with the polishing head and the grip would be too long to get into small places. The whole reason I have a G8 is not only for panels that are not very wide, but also get into small areas like the air opening below a bumper, under a spoiler, and other hard to reach places. This tool doesn`t look like it would get there very easily.

- A ceramic metal polish? Ceramic in a polish? Unless it is an AIO type product I don`t see the point of "ceramic" in a product like that.

Here`s their write-up:

Ceramic Metal Polish restores, brightens, and protects common metal surfaces leaving behind a finish like you have never seen before.

Advanced sub-micron abrasives efficiently remove dullness, oxidation, and defects
Durable and hydrophobic SiO2 and silane polymers protect from the elements and preserve the finish
Effective on aluminum, billet, brass, chrome, stainless steel, silver, and copper
