Barry,
I am also sorry to hear you have to sell your Bimmer. Being a Bimmerhead since 1999 and still going, I can really relate to what it feels to let one go.
You might want to get as many inputs as possible regarding the price in your area for your car - check out Nada.com I believe, and Edmunds.com, for more pricing info to help you come up with a good competitive price.
Outright selling is always the best way if possible, but I have heard alot of good things going on at Swapalease.com too.
Also make sure you can provide or show all maintenance being done, up to date, etc., and this will help potential buyers figure out if they can afford it or not more easily, etc..
I have heard Carmax makes good deals too when selling outright, but dont have any "hands on" experience with them myself.
You might also go by your friendly BMW dealership and see what they have on trade-ins, that might work for your circumstances as well.
Depending on the year of your car, they might want to take it and make it a Certified Pre-Owned car and sell it themselves, you never know..
I look at cars on Ebay once and awhile, and its quite daunting the amount of cars out there at any given moment. You will need to take a good quality set of pics for that and places like Autotrader.com, etc...
There are also Consignment lots around your area I imagine, might give one of those places a call ?
Good Luck, I wish I could help, but we are also hanging on by a tread sometimes too. I am doing all I can to help us not lose our house at the moment...
I just thought of something - I am a member of the BMW CCA and that allows me to post cars for sale in the Roundel Magazine, which is also on-line now.. Let me know if you want me to post up an ad for you - I dont know how it works, but would be glad to try it for ya'..
It would go here - BMW CCA [

Be glad to help you out any way I can from way over here, just PM or call me if you want..
Best to you and the family !
