Seatbelt "shackle" damage

See... theres always a trade-off of snow and Southern California sunshine. You get salt all over the place, and I get road construction with bulldosers inches away from me throwing gravel on the road. Then other machines spew black smoke. Machines that don't spew smoke on me through little pebbles on for windshield. My car looks like it has been through some off-roading and my front, right tire has a small dent on it.

Enough ranting... so don't move to this sunny city yet! I want snow! :D

<strong class='bbc'>We sorta get a little more precipitation in the form of ice and snow we have to deal with and road trucks spread cinders and salt all over the place. I got pelted by a cinder truck last winter, luckily there were no kids in the car to hear my reaction ;) The salt dries right up and has to be dissolved to come off. [/b]</blockquote>

If I lived in Buffalo ....

I would take the car south for a week....

Hand wash it once !

Apply one layer of Klasse AIO.

Apply about 30 layers of Klasse SG.

Take it back North and wait until the spring before even thinking of the car's exterior again !!

:D :D :D

Only kidding.. I feel for you ... I complain when I get a little road salt on my fenders.

BW that's not a California thing that's a city thing, I live out in the country and am proud of it ;)

How many days is it above freezing btwn Dec- end of Feb? You get serious. Were you here last winter? Did you witness mother natures relentless snow assault? I'll admit, the last couple of weeks have been warm for January, but this weather is an anomoly, not the norm.

And I'm not going to argue with you about getting sick. I got sick. And I don't believe in old wives tales either. But know how I was feeling, and when I started to feel that way.

So in short, you can do whatever you want. Have fun. My skin is thick enough BTW. Cold is cold. Period! Throwing around cliches doesn't change reality. [/b]</blockquote>
Bill that's it! I'm tracking you down and deporting you to the Southern City of your choice, all expenses paid by Autopia:D

I have lived here for 40yrs and our winters are nothing compared to the past. In fact as I work for the Parks and Recreation Dept. we had to give up all natural outdoor rinks as of 1998 because it was impossible to maintain them. The last time we had a blast of winter was in Jan.99 when we recieved 3ft over 9 days. Last year was a cake walk and for your info in the time period you are refering to we had 28 days out of 91 that were above freezing. I never went longer than 8 days with out hand washing my vehicle. The 7 customers I did during this period had to be patient but they all got done.

Bill sick is sick and I wouldn't wish the flu or a cold on anyone but you didn't get it from washing your car, unless the guy before you in the wash bay had the flu and coughed all over the wand grip and then you touched your nose ,eyes or mouth during your wash.

I would like to chat longer but is 3C or 37 at 11:24pm and I'm going to go wash my Aztek at the wash bay. And yes Bill I will freeze my ass off but the vehicle will be shining and the salt will not be munching away while I sleep. Keep the Faith!

I'm sorry, but living in Toronto and living in Dallas, Texas are NOT the same. If I had Dallas winters in TO, then I'd probably hand wash my car like you. Zero degrees is nothing. That's child's play. Try -15 or -20 with the windchill. Hard wind no less. No latex gloves will save you. Your hands will freeze even if they are bone dry. And yes, I DID get sick from hand washing the car in the month of Dec. [/b]</blockquote>
You didn't say anything about -15 or -20. You said in temperatures barely above freezing. That would be low to mid 30's. I do wash cars regularly in the temperatures you said can make you sick. Cold alone won't make you sick anyway, like ELD said. The first year I moved back to Dallas (winter 1983) was the coldest one in a long time around here-it was below freezing continously for about a week and a half, and my brother and I washed our cars at the local coin-op when it was in the low 20's. Very uncomfortable, but I managed to struggle through.

BTW, I lived in the Chicago area for a few years, so I know what below zero temperatures are like. That is one of the main reasons I live in the Dallas area. Cold winters are few and far between-although we did get down to 14 last week-but it was 75 today and I got a bit of a tan while working this afternoon.

LOL!!! I hate snow and the cold!! I actually washed my car at home during Dec. My hose hadn't frozen yet. Are their actually coin-op places in Toronto? If so, where? I have never seen one here in my life. But I may go if I find one close by.

Let me know. Thanks man.

Bill, they are all over the place. I live in the west end of the city and there are at least 6 to choose from.

Dundas/Runnymede

Dundas just west of Scarlett

Weston Rd just south of the 401

Dufferin/Queen

Dundas just west of Landsdowne

College/Landsdowne

They all can be packed on a mild day so be prepered to wait or go at odd hours as I do. I take all my supplies in a 5 gal. bucket and go to town takes about 45min. and will cost you between $5-7 depending on the location.

Bill where do you live that you there aren't self service car wash bays ;) even in Newbury we got them, well the next town over they do :D

Surprisingly enough I live 20 minutes north of the downtown core. But where I am, I have not seen any coin-op places. I'll have to start looking harder.

Well alright, I did the deed. I took my 2001 Golf (TDI, of course) to my local spray-it-yourself car wash bay emporium. It just had so much salt and crud on it I didn't want to leave it on and let it eat my paint.

The spray was very fine and dispersed, barely warm, and I didn't use any soap. There's still some dirt on it if I run my finger across the finish, but it looks much better. I also washed the wheel wells and used some Turtle Wax spray to get most of the brake dust off my alloy wheels.

I think my Klasse is still on there.

Broke out hose.... trickled at first then thawed after about 5 mins... I let the water sheet off the light layer of salt/sand on body and thoroughly washed down the wheel wells and wheels. Heavy amounts of Final Inspection/ Z6 used in drying with a Charisma ... dressed tires and fenderwells, ....Where is the digital ???

... I need a pic, before I drive her 30 feet and destroy my work !!!

I hate road salt !!!!!!!!!

Not sure what you call it but the male portion of the seatbelt... I've seen on some cars where when the belt is unclipped an let toi slide back it over time scratches or wears away at the vinyl on the side of the car where it rubs against. Does anybody have any good solutions like a soft rubber boot that slide over the back of it?

Thanks guys!

Not completely sure what part you are describing the belt were it hits the seat or were the belt hits the pillar post.I know they make a wrap that goes around the seat belt for people who feel the belt is too tight against there body other then that I've never seen anything else other then to make sure when you release the belt is not too let it go flying into the reel and just guide it back in.
