I've previously posted threads regarding swirl removal and wash regime, but I'm worried that I'm wasting a lot of time & effort if I don't use a sealant.



I plan to clay, #9 then P21S but should I glaze or seal between the #9 & P21S and my questions are;



1. Is this the right place to seal or should I seal last?

2. Can anyone recommend a suitable sealant (I realise that one's

going to be down to personal preference)

You do not need to use a sealant between the polish and wax. Obviously, you can if you wish. Two which immediately spring to mind are Autoglyms Resin & Gloss or Meguiars #20.
 
Andy, your plan of attach looks good if you want to use a wax as your protection. This would not be a waste of time. Waxes don't last as long as sealants so you will just have to wax the finish more often. If you want to go to a sealant then you could certainly go with something like Klasse AIO and SG. Both products are super easy to use. Wipe on, wipe off. AIO is an all in one cleaner/polish/protectant and SG is a pure sealant meant to go over AIO. AIO will prep the paint for SG to bond to the surface properly. Here is what your plan of attach would be.

AIO will remove anything that is on the surface of the car so it's going to remove the oils and fillers left behind by #9. You could use a more aggressive swirl remover prior to #9 first. I'd recommend Megs DACP. DACP will remove swirls and light scratches better than #9. #9 is a finer polish that rounds over the sharp edges of swirls and fills them in with oils and fillers to make them less noticable. I still recommend using a finer polish after DACP, like #9. You don't have to, but it does bring out more gloss. Do you have a PC or buffer? Using one will definitely make swirl removal MUCH easier and the process go faster.

Thanks for those points.



I guess the bottom line here really is finding products which work for me personally, but using tips and techniques from all those more expert than myself.



I will see how I get on with my original plan and, weather permitting, mayve get some photos to post.
 
AndyC, I'm not sure what products are readily available in the UK, nor what your weather conditions are. But ...



My view is, in summer I'm willing to go with a wax, because I can reapply it frequently to keep protection on the paint.



But as fall approaches and (having no garage) I know I won't be able to maintain my cars as frequently, I'm nearly FRANTIC to get polymer sealants on the paint, because I believe they do a better job of protecting the paint against salt and accumulated grime.



As for brands, I'd trust LoweJackson's advice about what's good and available in the UK. (He also posted a stickie that gives sources for UK detailers. Have you checked that out?)
 
Thanks for that but I can't find the sticky - anyone able to point me in the right direction?



I can get Megs #20 here in the UK - anyone offer anything better bearing in mind that at the moment I'm hand applying all products!
