Sealant over Carnauba...how soon?

It I'm going to put a sealant over my Carnauba, do I need to wait for the nuba to cure, or can the sealant me put over it right away? Thanks.

I though the nuba went of first for the depth of shine and the sealant on top for maximum protection and durability.

Actually, you did this backwards. Sealants can't bond correctly over wax which will provide less than desirable results. The correct way to do this is to prep the surface correctly, then apply however many layers of sealant you would like, and finally a coat of wax over that. Each layer should not be applied any sooner than 24 hours between each coat. Hope this helps.

Ok, when detailing a car for a customer, when you don't have days for cure, can the nuba just be put over the sealant for further depth? Or is the 24hr necessary?

The 24 hours is necessary if you want it to last. The good news is that even though there is a minimum waiting period for curing, there *isn't* a maximum amount of time in which you can wait before adding another coat. What this means is, you can maintain your customer's car with a wash each week and continue to add an additional coat/layer of sealant each time for however many times you want, and then finally, finish it off with a coat of wax when you are ready.

I find it best to wait a full 24 hours and a wash before either topping a carnauba with more carnauba or Optimum Opti-Seal or Zaino Clear Seal. OS and CS are the only sealants I know that will definitely work well over carnaubas.

I've got numerous coats of sealant/wax or wax/sealant on my S2K...I let each coat set up for at about 8 hours and have not had any problems. I've layered with blackfire, zaino, P21, Zymol Ital, Victoria concourse, pinnacle souveran, and swissol. All seem to work very well

I find it best not to use the sealant/carnuaba technique on customer details. Just pick one or the other, the less times you need to go around the vehicle the better.

If you do do this for customers you should at the very least make it an up-charge.

It's definately an up-charge. I'm not worried about the cost...just being able to get it done it one day...which it looks like I may not be able to.

Time IS money so you should worry about the "cost" of your time.

Maybe I didn't explain well...I DID charge for this service.

The detail is on an '06 Acura TL, and the charge is $250. The upcharge for the nuba wax is $75. Assuming I could do the nuba during the 1-day detail, I'm covered. The customer is not interested in being without the car for more than 1 day.

As I said, the cost is covered...the time is the issue.
