Sealant and wax life expectancy?

Hey guys

Just a quick question that came to mind today.

During a detail, if one is to put multiple layers of sealant, we'll say 3 or 4, then top if off with a carnuba wax, we'll say another 3 layers, will the sealant wear away with the wax or will fresh application of wax every few weeks protect the sealant so that it does not have to reapplied as well?

TIA

Squider

If you let each layer cure for 24 hours, it will protect the sealant IMO. 2 of each (sealant x2, wax x2) is as much as you want to do. After that, it becomes a waste.

Agreed, over application is something I see to often, the main reason for doing more than one coat is to be sure you covered all the areas you wanted it applied to, when you start into multiple applications you end up just wasting time and product, only so much will stick to your paint, the rest is pure waste and wiped off. Best thing to is make sure you are using the best product for the job. After using a quality sealer, wait 24 hours, then go over it with a quality carnauba, I personally use Glanz and Collinite Fleet. Works nice, even in harsh New England.

aloha squiderM3 , yes a reapplication will help preserve your sealant . In the hot sun out here in Hawaii I top my sealant with a carnuba for better looks and durability. I say wax is gone in a month and sealant's last 3 months . With a monthly app of a topper wax I can get alittle more out of my sealant. maybe 4 months.

However I'm a detail freak and end up stripping and reapplying sealant as often as every 3 months.

That's the answer I was looking for, should have made the question more clear, I guess.

BTW, I used SSR1 (got the water spots out), AIO, SG X 3 and will top off with S100 this week. The problem I mentioned awhile back about silver not being very reflective, was I ever WRONG. After the steps above the car simply looks amazing, better than when I took delivery.

Thanks for your help earlier.

Hey M3 , anytime man. you're right. I've never seen my 325ci look better . The slvr looks deep and wet with PB ex-p and topped with natty's .
