Scratches Right off the dealer showroom!

Hey guys/gals

I just picked up a NEW 2013 Shelby GT500 that has basically been sitting on the dealer's showroom flor for 2 1/2 years!! UGH!!!!

My car is BLACK with red gloss stripes.

Wel.there are light scratches in the paint as well as in the vinyl.

I'm seriously considering taking her to a high end professional detailer by me...Detailing Dynamics...but I think I want to wait until after the winter.

Is there any way to "mask" these scratches on the vinyl? Or can I actually polish them out?

Also, my black paint by the hood is bad....at least under fluorescent lights.

Should I use a cleaner wax?

I am NOT comfortable using ANY power tools on my car..I will leave that to the professionals

But is there some products I could use by hand??? I will order them ASAP.

Thanks in advance

Melissa

WOW, imagine that, you must be near me on LI. I used Eddie at Detailing Dynamics and he does amazing work for sure. He has done several of my cars in the past. I kind of am at the point where I can do the paint myself but he did my PPF and electronics.

Black is the roughest color of all. It look the best when cleaned and finished but the worst when abused (read washed improperly).

Since you are here, I am guessing you care about the finish and see the difference and because you are looking at a very high end shop on LI.

People I know drive expensive black cars and cant see jack.

Polishing by hand is something I could never pull off with the results I want. Other feel free to tell me I am wrong. Don't fear power tools. I know, I did. Once you have the basics, its hard to ruin paint with a DA. Don't consider a rotary. If you wanted to attempt this yourself, I think you would need to be shown by someone who knows. I learned at a detailing day given by Poorboys It runs sometime end of June or beginning of July. There is also a class in Northern NJ at Detailers Domain. I went to both and they were what I needed.

If you wait until after the winter the only real risk it a more expensive detail as the paint may require more steps to revive or more work if you do it yourself. No damage that is irreversible will happen (other than chips that standard wax/sealant/coating will not stop anyway).

Good Luck, that car is a beauty. Perhaps I will see you out a captree one sunday AM before it gets too cold.

Enjoy your car in the best of health.

Post some pics of the car and if you can catch any of the damage you are referring to. There are a lot of pro detailers from around the country who are excellent and offer advice.

Congrats on the new ride!

If this is going to be your daily driver, I'd strongly encourage you to get it correct and coated prior to winter. It's going to make your live a lot easier to clean and protect it from road salt/sludge/general nastiness.

:bigups

Thanks! The car is NOT A daily driver. I DO drive my "hobby" cars...but this one won't see snow. I have a garage.

The detailer I am hoping to use is pretty pricey...maybe the bf will get me a gift certificate for Christmas. ..but in the meantime I would like to put a coat of wax on it and HID the swirls/micro scratches.

Hey Jeff..thanks for the info..but I think I'll use detailing dynamics. .I'll bring her in soon

We probably ran into each other at the many car shows in long island. I'm in queens but my bf is in Nassau county. He hassle a boss 302..we're car nuts!! Lol

What do you drive?

There is a product called Black Hole that is a glaze that hides swirls on black. You can put sealant or wax over it to keep it in place longer. Lasts a few washes. I don't know of a similar product for vinyl.

A little goes along way.

I have a few cars, my daily is an 2013 M37X Sport.

You will be very happy with Eddie's work. He is a perfectionist to the Max.

I second the use of the Black Hole Glaze. It really does do a good job of masking light swirls and scratches as well as adding nice depth and shine. I would then top the Black Hole with some Nattys Blue Paste wax which also has some filling characteristics itself. This is a proven combo that works great.

Hi Melissa,

Your more then welcome to bring it by. I'll gladly recommend what exact products to use to get it to perfect or keep it safe for the winter. I've done a couple of GT500's an know the paint pretty well.

Pm me, I'm right in your area. :welcome:

-Joe

I would recommend PB black hole for sure or another option is Menzerna top finishing glaze. If you have a medium cut applicator pad like an orange or white ccs, Menz TFG actually has some cutting/corrective properties as well.

There are 2 paint correction guys on Long Island that have proven to do quality work from their forum posts.

About the Long Island Detailer - Xclusive Autoworks

Long Island Auto Detailing by Mr. Sparkle

I do know that Detailing Dynamics is the premiere PPF guy out here. Not sure about their paint correction work though.

I believe one of these guys will travel to your location for mobile work if you didnt want to wait till after the winter.

regarding something thats gonna fill the defects, Like mentioned earlier Chemical guys has some decent glazes. Blacklight and Glossworx glaze work pretty well for this.

Detailing Dynamics is an amazing shop. They have done correction work for me, PPF, auto storage, mobile electronics and some custom painting. Simply a top notch stop, with top talent. Eddie and Mat are beyond perfection. I am a nut and I feel totally safe when my car is in their care.

thats really good to know! I am in Port Jefferson suffolk county. thx for the info. Its always good to know someone who can paint parts up to our standards as detailers.

Just for future reference, if you have to get black, order the car. Don't buy it off the lot ever. Order the car, instruct the dealer to leave the plastic on the car and remove it when you get there so you can both inspect the paint for any major (beyond detailing) issues. If the paint doesn't have any, take it home and properly wash it yourself. Then make signs in English and Spanish that you tape to the windshield and steering wheel that say "do not wash" for each visit to the dealership. You absolutely cannot trust them to properly wash the car. Case in point, two recent customers bought black cars off the lot from a dealership that has a reputation for taking care of their customers. But they simply can't wash a car to save their lives. They run the cars through a machine wash and the wheel scrubber left nasty swirling all the way down the sides from the tire height on down.

Hey guys/gals

My car was a spur of the moment purchase and a bit of a specialty car.

Anyways, I took it to DD back in December and the car came out great!!! It cost me some $$$$...but I don't mind paying for quality.
Also, what I liked about this shop was that the owner gave us a tour...and damn, he had amazing cars in there getting work done.

Also, in my naivety i was ready to fork over money for the most expensive tints and an interior detail. The owner, Matt told me the interior did not need a detail and because my car is a convertible there was no need for the $$$ tint because on hot days I'd have the top down anyways.

How about some pictures of the car?

They are a very capable shop, if not the most capable locally.

I have never been disappointed by them and I am a difficult customer because I see everything-and it bothers me.
