Scratches and swirl mark removal after use of Zaino Products

Hello,

I have used the Zaino line on our Matador Red 1970 442 W30, and I am very pleased with the overall results. There are still quite a few scratches, and a few swirl marks that Z-5 cant quite make disappear (even after 8 hand applications). I was wondering if what I use on my daily driver will work on my W30, and how it will affect the application of any Zaino products. Here is what I use on my daily driver (a 1998 Honda Civic in Black) I have had great success using Meguiars Swirl Mark Remover #9 2.0 with a foam pad that has a very light cutting action for the swirls, and using 3M Finesse-It II with a pad that has a slightly more aggressive cutting action (followed by an application of Meguiars #9 to remove any haze left by the Finesse-It II) I use these with My Porter Cable 7424 polisher.



I would like to know the steps I should take to remove the flaws from my finish, and treat it once again to many applications of Z-2.



Any Help would be greatly appricated!
 
It is always best to get the finish the way you want it before you move onto Zaino,Klasse ect. If you have minor swirls you might want to just try the SMR or #9 as it has less abrasives. If that doesn't work then move to the F-II then follow it up with SMR or #9



and yes they will remove some if not all of the Zaino...

:nixweiss What about the fillers that are possibly in the #9? wont those be removed by the Dawn before I Zaino the car, and since the fillers are gone wont the swirls and scratches be back? Is there a better way to actually remove the light scratches and swirls, and not just fill them in ? The meguiar's #9 is primarily fillers and oils with some mild abrasives added to help soften the sharp edges of swirl marks, thus making them less visible. However, since you are going to use FI-2 (which doesn't have fillers and oils) as your first step and #9 will be used primarily to clean up any remaining 'micro-swirls', you probably will not have much of a problem with swirls-reappearing after you do a Dawn wash.
 
If swirls are too deep for zaino Z5 then you need to remove then abrasively with SMR, Finesse it II or #9. When you are done wash with Z7 wash or DAWN to remove oils. This serves 2 purposes:



1. To provide a clean oil free surface that zaino can bond too.

2. To remove the oil "fillers" in the abrasive products to insure all the swirls are removed before going on to the zaino step.



Follow up with Z2 or Z5 with ZFX or Z1. If your car is not clearcoated you should be using Z3. You will find that future swirls will fill in easily with Z5 as most of them are in the zaino layers themselves.

Nice car w302nv! Here's a pic of my Rocket. As far as swirlmarks in your paint are concerned. You can hide them or if you truly want to remove them you will need a v/s rotary buffer and have an experienced person do it for you or if you choose to do it, be sure to practice on some old body panels until you are absolutely confident in your ability. The Porter Cable is a very nice tool but it doesn't put enough heat into the paint to do the job of permanently removing surface imperfections.

Hehe...funny story here Brian....

The only reason we ended up with this W-30 is because your old Sherwood Green W-Machine sold either the very day or the day after we called and wanted to arrange a time to look (buy) it. The only thing I do not like about this car (vs. your old one) is that it is an automatic (w/dual gate) vs. a 4spd...its fully documented & numbers matching (ex Trans...its still an OW)....looks great, and is a blast to drive...the convert looks great...have you got to drive it yet? By the way, do you know where I can find repo Polyglas tires?
