Scratches again thanks to GF

WEll my girlfriend did it again. She put one of her school books on my trunk lid and when she took it she slid the book and grabbed it:eek:  . I got so mad at her. so here is my plan of attack: Use Meguiars scratch remover by hand, then Meguiars #9, then Klasse AIO, then Platinum Paint protection. What do you think? Please recommend something else if you like.

The scratch remover would probably not be something I would use. The #9 will help a great deal with the scuff type of abrasion that usually comes from setting something on the car. Try it and if it doesn't work, swear at me and try something a little stronger.

#9 recently took out a dirt clod scuff for me with not too much effort.

I don't think rubbing that stuff on her will keep her for scratching your car again, you have to intercept it before it happens :xyxthumbs

I'm with Charles, if the #9 works then golden, if not you'll have to try something tad stronger.

Blackmirror you described what happen but you did not describe the scratches. CMA has a spot remover kit that you might consider getting your gf for Christmas( just joking, because if thats all you get her for Christmas then you will find more scratches than you bargined for).

I'm not a huge fan of the Meguiars products. I find the compounds often inconsistant.

Since you asked, my arsenal of choice would be to use 3M Finesse It if my 3M Swirl Mark Remover did not take care of it first. :up

On a side note. Don't you find that the Platinum Paint Protection degrades the Klasse finish? Why use both?

Degrades? How is it any diferent than putting any sealant over AIO? SG goes over AIO, doesn't it?

Did it AGAIN??? She obviously doesn't respect your property, I'd find a new girlfriend. She sounds like an inconsiderate clod. :argue

Predictability is prevention......I agree with Green, and stay away from all of em !!!!!!!!hehe

They are not all the same. Platinum has abrasive properties. It's very low in solvents yet cleans the surface very well. It does this with abrasives. Do a test for yourself.

Find a panel that has dirt or light paint oxidation on it. Put a couple coats of Platinum on it. It will clean up real well and look great. But in doing so, it has to clean up the surface. Ask yourself if this wouldn't have taken the Klasse off or at least have degraded it.;)

Interesting and logical. I have had AIO and Platinum on one of my vehicles since the first week in August. 2 applications of each.

The 2 coats were to assure complete coverage, whether they will layer or not was not of any concern to me. The application of the Platinum very definitely improved the look. The use of AIO as a prep came from reading Beach15's posts about using that combination. His pictures were awesome. Four Star does recommend using a paint cleaner prior to UPP and AIO is one they recommend. Would the fact that I am using the "new" UPP have anything to do with the results? Whatever, the car looks great and still beads when it rains, (or snows), which is everyday for some time now. I have the same combination on another vehicle, but it has had UPP applied each month so I have no idea if any AIO is still there. Again, it sure looks good.

HAhahahahahaha:D You guys are funny! I can't dump her though because she's so good to me. I keep on telling her not to put anything on top of the car. Then later on she does it again without even realizing she put something on top of the car. I told her how I am about my car and keeping it shiny all the time. I'll just have to watch her actions everytime we get out of the car.

As for AIO and Platinum, my car looks awesome with that combo. I already have 5 coats of UPP and the comments on the street and at work just keep coming and it feels great!:D  Plus I don't have haze spots anymore like I did in the past with SG.

I looked and examined the scratch today under good lighting and it looks like I can actually feel the scratches with my fingernail and this might take some work to get off and something stronger. I don't think #9 will remove it. E1 scratch remover or 3M Finesse It are the products I should try on this scratch right?

Oh and forgot to tell ya that the paint is not clearcoated. So would E1 scratch remover or 3M finesse it still be safe to use on non clearcoated surfaces?

Blackmirror:

Congrats on doing such a great job with your car. When are we gonna see pics?

E1 Scratch remover and FI-2 are perfectly safe to use on non-clearcoated paint. It might take up to three or four applications though. Use a relatively small amount and work the product into the paint until the surface is nearly clear and dry. Follow that up with either AIO or #9 and you're done. If the scratch is something that you can DEFINITELY feel with your fingernail, then you might not be able to completely level it out (however, you will significantly reduce its appearance). Give it a shot and let us know how it goes.

Still saving up for a digital camera. So I'll take pictures as soon as I get one. I'll try the E1 scratch remover and see how it goes.

If you can't get rid of her then get her that new Microfiber purse and Microfiber book bag that's all the rage this season. :xyxthumbs
