Scotch guard anyone?

I went and bought some in order to advertise the service but I haven't gotten around to advertising it yet so I haven't done any business with it yet. I plan to charge $35 for carpets and floor matts and $55 for carpets, floor matts, and seats.

how far will one of the aerosol cans available at HI stores go? Will one can do carpets, mats and seats? It seems it would.

If you have a Big Lots! in your area they had/have ScotchGuard on sale for something like $5.99 a gallon with a great sprayer....

I'm not convinced that the process/product is really all that great. I've only had one specific request for the treatment.

I know it works, but how well? And how long?

I'm open to suggestions...

Jim

not really relevant to cars but..... last winter I had a new gore-tex coat that was scotch-guarded from factory. I was eating and dropped a large blob of ketchup/mustard down the front. After a few %&*#!@ words I grabbed a napkin and to my astonishment, it wiped off like water off SG! I was impressed. I've got an old chair at the house that has a fine nap upholstery, maybe I'll try some field trials on it.

I don't believe that Gore-Tex is ScotchGuarded. Gore-Tex is a special fabric, not a spray on treatment, and it would be pointless to ScothGuard a Gore-Tex fabric.

Ignorance is bliss. Gore-tex is almost always an inner lining on whatever product it is used for. Scotchguard is a chemical used to resist soils, liquids and mustard/ketchup, and almost always is applied to the outer shell. Since Scotchguard repells liquids (water and ketchup) it naturally is a great LSP, so to speak, on a nylon/gore-tex coat.

I found this new product that might work well for detailing. I'm not sure of the cost though. There is a line geared toward Automotive use. Is it any differant than the home-use line? Doubtful.

edit: Sorry for the sharp reply pigeonbus. I just get sick and tired of all the misinformation I read on i-net forums and just came from a thread in a car forum that was such BS it made me sick. This forum doesn't seem to be infected. Again... sorry.

I get the occasional request. I can pick up a can at Pep Boys for around $6 and charge $25 or so (depending on interior size). Takes maybe 15 minutes.

I'm with Jim though, just not sure if the application is really worth it. I recommend to customers with kids that they invest in Husky Liners mats. They have lips on them to hold in liquid spills.
