ok, im confused on what towels is what. im assuming "bath towels" are the large ones u dry bodies with. so what are "hand" and "wash" towels? is hand like a long rectangular one and wash is like a small square face towel? and for zaino veteran users, do i really need a bath size towel? i mean thats pretty big and thick when ur using a folded bath towel to buff stuff. or is the hand or wash towel sufficient enough already?


also, does anyone know where i can get microfiber Magic Towels? that pro auto care doesnt have it in stock.
 
Buy the Turtle Wax Microfiber towels. They are plush and cheap. They are not shown on their website yet but I saw them in a couple of stores and bought a couple. Work as good as a 14 dollar microfiber towel. They are too soft too scratch.

Based on another post on here that the Turtle Wax Emerald Series wax gives a car a great shine, maybe Turtle Wax is turning their bad name around.
 
ok so im hearing great things about the viking applicator pads. so i go out to autozone and kragen and walmsrt looking for them. but i couldnt find the ones that u guys say have some kind of handle on them so its easier to grip. all i keep seeing are the viking ones that are plain foam pads wrapped in terry cloth without handles. sold in a pair of 2. are these the same quality as the ones with the handles? because i dont mind not having an easier grip on the pad, i just want what many of u guys think is great for applying things. so are they the same pad in terms of material and make?

wow! that was nothing close of what i imagined it to look like. i didnt even know it was a purely a foam applicatior. that thing looks pretty big and thick too.



but arent foam applicators a bit more dangerous to use than terry covered foam applicators? in terms of scratching that is. i do know they spread things thinner and easier... do any of u have experience using this with Zaino and Klasse?



do u guys know any place else that carries these kind of pads? my local autozone seems to suck and never have the stuff alot of people say they do.
 
As far as scratching, I don't think the concern is that the foam itself will scratch; rather, a particle of grit that is trapped between the applicator and the paint may cause scratching. If using cotton terry, the piece of grit may get drawn into the nap, preventing the scratch (or it might not, roll the dice).



That said, I only apply products using foam after a thorough wash *and* going over the car again with a QD to make sure it's as clean as I can make it. I switched from cotton to foam (using Zaino), and don't think I'll be going back to cotton; I use less product, get more even coats, and have less problems with residue removal since the switch.



Sorry I can't help you find them in your area; around here, AutoZone is the only place I've been able to find them . . . O'Reilly's (chain of parts stores here in Omaha) carries Viking products - mitts, towels, sponges, brushes, etc. - but no applicators. If O'Reilly exists in your area, it might be a spot to check, as they at least seem to carry Viking's stuff.

What to do when you have nothing else to do:
 
I was given 4 Schlegel pads today and wanted to know if anyone here has used them. I have the 7.5 inch twisted wool (P/N 175 C). It's a good looking cutting pad with recessed velcro or "cupped" outer perimeter. Again, these were a freebie and I don't turn those down! I'm going to try them out this weekend.
 
That brand name has been around for at least 40 years that I personally know of. We used their various grades of wool pads in the paint shop all the time.
I still see them sold at my automotive paint shop I go to for some supplies. I am sure they will do well, but like all Wool/combo pads, as you know, they cut fast and dont say, oops, sorry, I just burned ya' :):):)

Out here, Boat and Airplane guys use them alot, again, because they are relatively cheap, and work fast. I dont use that brand on autos but have used some of the L/Country wool/foam purple pads on severely scratched paint with great success, but again, as you know, any wool pad is the ginsu knife compared to the swiss army knife.. :)

I used them for about 10 years back in the day when I worked for a high volume shop. We ordered them by the case! I thought they were very good for the price.
 
Thanks guys. I'm going to try them out on my neighbors boat Saturday. I'm thinking that weathered gelcoat ought to be the perfect candidate for the KBM, M105 and some big ass twisted wool pads! I haven't wheeled with 7.5 inch pads in a long time. Now where did I leave that 7" BP.

I hear ya Dan and thanks for the cautionary advice on the cutting ability of these things!
