Scented windshield wiper fluid?

D Tailor- Ah, great! The cars in question are a '00 A8 and a '01 S8. Both are only serviced at Stoddard Imported Cars (dealer) and I'm sure they'll make that change for me.

I *would* appreciate the codes as it'll make it easier to tell 'em what I want. Thanks so much, this has been in the back of my mind every winter since we bought them new!

I am looking it up Accumulator. I haven't been able to find specific VAG codes for the A8/S8 (D2). Although, they may be simliar to the A4 (B5). I have two VW/Audi tecs looking into today and they should get back to me within a day or two. For now, you might consider doing this although not a true autopian way of doing things:

1. Turn your headlights off while you spray windshield (not very safe) or just pulse the spray. It will not kick on the headlight washers with pulse.

2. You can pull a relay and cut a wire to disable them permanently. PM for directions on this (reversible by reconnection of wires and putting relay back in).

3. You can pull the H20 hose from the washers and cap them. This will still cause them to function but they will not spray (pm me for a diagram and directions on this as well--it is reversible).

Like I said, not entirely perfect but maybe you like one of the above solutions. I will let you know the VAG-folder and codes when they come in.

Kinda weird question I guess, but a customer of mine gets his VW serviced at the dealer and supposedly gets lemon scented windshield wiper fluid when he brings it in...he recently asked me if I could source any but I haven't heard or seen any such product...have any of you guys seen anything like that?

There are so many threads on the source of this nice-smelling washer fluid. Nobody has been able to figure out what it is. It's certainly not the various products available thru your local VW parts counter - - ask me how I know ;)

I suspect the stuff is sourced in Mexico where these cars are produced.

There's definitely something about the smell of genuine VW/Audi washer fluid. No idea whether they intentionally make it smell like it does. Although I never thought it smelled like lemons.

Either way, I'd make the interior of my car smell that way all the time if I could, assuming the new car scent had already faded. It's just smells fresh and clean.

Btw- did u know that Audi spends circa 500k a year to perfect the smell of their interiors and ensure their uniformity? Crazy. I saw it on a special about 'new car smell' and how bad it is for you. Apparently vw/audi spend the $ t make it safer as we'll as fairly neutral.

In any event I purchased a bottle of the concentrate and it arived yesterday. I'm using it as part of my 'perkonomics sale' for the next two months. I'll let u know what clients think of it.

D Tailor- Yeah, a quick pulse of the washers doesn't seem to result in much (if any) fluid making it through the headlight washers, but nah...flicking the lights off/on isn't gonna happen ;)

Nor would I want to permanently disable them...if I were gonna get really involved with this I'd have a separate switch wired in so I could simply bypass that aspect of the washer system.

Let me know if you find a simple reflash solution, and if I think of it I'll run the idea past my service guys (sure wouldn't be the weirdest thing I've asked them to do).

It's not like the S8 is getting driven in nasty weather anyhow...but you never know what you'll run into on long trips.

I use Wurth Windshield Washer Additive (Art. # 0892 332836 - 8.45 fl. oz. Bottle) in my '05 Audi A4 UltraSport. Color is Blue and you dilute it with water depending on the temperature protection you want.

I've been using it since I've been rockin this ride because, well it has that same scent as the OEM stuff that was in the car when I got it.

The cheapest I can find it is over on Good Speed Motoring but the price has been creeping up over the years.

Wurth also makes Blitz Washer Additive which comes in a smaller bottle and the color is orange. This product provides no freezing protection like the Windshield Washer Additive and I can't comment on whether it has that same wonderful fragrance. You can get that one from TDI Parts

Well it sounds like we have the same opinion on things at least :xyxthumbs No one likes to take ones own life into risk just to save your paint.

I will let you know as soon as my techs get back to me. If you want to do the switch, I can send you closeups of the wires and thrie locations so you know where to splice in. If you have any dead switches on the dash or console area (blanks) that would be great spot to install one. I put a switch (factory looking) in my B5 Passat to control a motoried rear sunshade a couple of years back. Look good and filled in the odd, "6th" switch.

As for bad weather....I never know what i'll run into on short trips!! all of the roads were dry today...everywhere. As I drive my freshly detailed ride down the road, I find the biggest friggin salt-snow water runnoff- gonna sling up all over my paing from my 33 inch tires puddle ever! Luckily I tote detailing spritz and there was a parking lot nearby....

D Tailor- Heh heh, as I said, my S8 doesn't see much nasty weather, and my wife has the right mindset about stuff like spraying washerfluid, so the A8 doesn't suffer much either ;) Neither of us minds pulling off to (manually) clean the windshield if necessary.

But yeah, next time I'm in the mood to throw some $ at the Audis I might look into doing the switch...I'm spending enough on the current project as it is :D Knowing how to set it up would make the whole thing easier to explain to my service guys.
