Was out running errands with my friend Jr. yesterday, and we passed a new Mustang GT in the purplish blue, and she commented how much she liked it, so later when we were passing a Ford dealer, I pulled in so we could look at Mustangs. There was a crowd out front, and it turned out to be a new Ford GT. The people around seemed to be mostly dealer personnel, but as we were walking around it, I realized that one of the salesmen was going over the features of the car with one of the crowd, in a manner such that I then realized that was the new owner of the car...so we figured we'd better stop ogling this guy's car and go inside.
I asked one of the salesmen inside if that guy was taking delivery, and he said yes, that they had just gotten the car this morning, that the buyer had said "give me a call when it comes in and I'll come down and look", and that he had spent 45 minutes looking at it and then decided to buy it. So I asked "they go for about $150K, right?", and the salesman replies "well, yeah, that's the list ". So I asked if they got more for it, and he said $70 or $80K more, which is what the traffic will bear, and that some dealers when the car first became available were charging $300K.
They apparently are making about 1500/year. Just in case you're wondering, Jr. commented about the commission our salesman had missed on that, and he said that no one got a commission on it, the owner of the dealership had handled the sale, and even so, their commission scale is sliding or unit-based (I guess) because he said he wouldn't have made significantly more if he had sold the GT than he would have made on any other car in the showroom.
On the way out, I remarked to another salesman about the car just coming in and out, and he said they were happy to have it gone, that they were nervous about having it around and it getting door dinged, etc.
I'm not a big Ford guy, and I don't know a whole lot about this car, it was just a little unexpected bonus to see an exotic while dropping into a dealer for a quick look-see at an everyday car.
