Saw A Ford GT

Was out running errands with my friend Jr. yesterday, and we passed a new Mustang GT in the purplish blue, and she commented how much she liked it, so later when we were passing a Ford dealer, I pulled in so we could look at Mustangs. There was a crowd out front, and it turned out to be a new Ford GT. The people around seemed to be mostly dealer personnel, but as we were walking around it, I realized that one of the salesmen was going over the features of the car with one of the crowd, in a manner such that I then realized that was the new owner of the car...so we figured we'd better stop ogling this guy's car and go inside.

I asked one of the salesmen inside if that guy was taking delivery, and he said yes, that they had just gotten the car this morning, that the buyer had said "give me a call when it comes in and I'll come down and look", and that he had spent 45 minutes looking at it and then decided to buy it. So I asked "they go for about $150K, right?", and the salesman replies "well, yeah, that's the list ". So I asked if they got more for it, and he said $70 or $80K more, which is what the traffic will bear, and that some dealers when the car first became available were charging $300K. They apparently are making about 1500/year. Just in case you're wondering, Jr. commented about the commission our salesman had missed on that, and he said that no one got a commission on it, the owner of the dealership had handled the sale, and even so, their commission scale is sliding or unit-based (I guess) because he said he wouldn't have made significantly more if he had sold the GT than he would have made on any other car in the showroom.

On the way out, I remarked to another salesman about the car just coming in and out, and he said they were happy to have it gone, that they were nervous about having it around and it getting door dinged, etc.

I'm not a big Ford guy, and I don't know a whole lot about this car, it was just a little unexpected bonus to see an exotic while dropping into a dealer for a quick look-see at an everyday car.

Lucky you! I don't know if I'll have a chance to see one over here - though for some reason, Ferraris are much more common than in the U.S.

What color was it? I like the dark blue with white stripes :cooleek: !

It was an incredible-looking car!! the color was magnificent Percy! Even if i could AFFORD such a car, I would be way too AFRAID to drive it! :woohoo:

When I was at the Nurburgring earlier this year with BMW I saw a whole transporter load of GT's being unloaded at a nearby race team facility. Apparently all Europe bound GT's get delivered here to be set up for our roads and then distributed on from there - it was quite a sight believe me!

I saw three of them in a row driving around here on I-94!!!

I figured it was just Car & Driver(HQ down the street from me) or Automobile magazine(also right around Ann Arbor), cause there was a red one, a white one, and a blue one.

Awesome and rare sight!

i saw a black one with white stripes today on the road, and ive seen two parked ones, and another one on the road a few months ago also black and white

We see them all the time in this area. When they were testing them you could find one on I-275 running with manufacturer plates all the time. I have seen a few since then. I know Kid Rock is rolling around here in a red one.

I was downtown with a friend and saw a black one parked in front of a swank restaurant. Nearby was a 911 Carerra.

Me and my son checked out a Red/White one a local Steak House a couple months ago. There beautiful cars for the $$, but what was amazing was the lack of detail in the engine compartment. Red and white wires unconcealed led me to believe attention to detail is not high on Fords priorities with this beast.....

My wife and I saw one on Queen/University parked behind a Bentley Continental GT. I remarked that the valets at the restaurant they were at must have been pee'ing themselves. :)

Both of them were incredible to see in person. The Continental is gorgeous. If only...

Right before the NFL Draft, our Braylon Edwards purchased a Continental GT and continued to be spotted doing burnout around Ann Arbor. What a gorgeous car which happens to be about the complete opposite of the Ford GT(in priorities:)).

ive seen alot of continental gt's .. even one parked at the local gym. took a peek inside, it was cool i guess but didnt look like 150,000$ of luxury

I live in suburban Detroit, and I have seen several GTs around, they are definitely a beautiful and unique car. I personally favor the red with white stripes. I saw one at the local nursery one day, go figure.
