Sandpaper on PC??

Can you use the PC7424 for sanding? The back post on the drivers car door is missing half the paint and it's down to bare metal. It's the part where people push on to shut the doors. The lady that owned it before us wore huge rings on all her fingers and I'm guessing that is what did the damage.

Also do you need a different backing plate?

I need to completely take it down to bare metal then prime and paint.

I'd take a pic but the wife has the camera.
 
The PC was designed to be a sander. It just morphed into polishing uses over the years. I use my Pc for sanding more than detailing anymore so yes, you can use it. I used it on some rust on my dad's car not too long ago and it works great.
 
And yes, you should use a different backing plate. PC makes one for that and it comes standard with the 7336, the twin of the 7424. Maybe you can find something at Lowes or HD? :nixweiss If not, find a tool dealer or order one. It's quite a bit stiffer than a BP for polishing. No sense frustrating yourself trying to sand with a too-soft BP and risk tearing it up in the process.

Agreed. I got a stick on backing plate kit from Lowes.
 
I convinced my wife that we should get the PC because she can use it for sanding as well ;)



However, I'm hesitant to use it for that purpose because I'm afraid there will be sawdust hiding in the crevices that will fall out as I'm buffing my car. :eek:

Buy 2 and always keep one hidden so she only sees one at a time!!! :chuckle:

Just take some compressed air to it when you are done. OR leave the Pc for sanding work and buy a Cyclo for the car. :getdown
