Sanding carbon fiber

If you have carbon fiber (real, not stick on or laminate or whatever) that was clear-coated, but there are some deep imperfections in the clear that require a signifigant amount of wetsanding and re-clearing, if you wetsand them out and accidently go through the clear and into the carbon, will you be okay since you're re-clearing the piece again anyways? Okay meaning that you havn't just buggered it up and need to buy a whole new piece?

I vaguely remember a friend showing me years ago a piece of carbon where he nailed it with a DA in one spot, it looked absolutely horrible, then he washed it (or something) and it looked perfect once again.

It'll look like crap most likely. If you get tot he CF you when through the clear AND the resin in the CF.

If you go through the clear you will need to relay the carbon fiber. I wetsanded a roof on an M3 recently, and there was plenty of clear there.
