Sanding bodyshop clearcoat with 2k

Hey guys, I'm at a body shop and when we wetsand panels we usually do it with 2k grit.





I've gotten to be pretty good with these products



m105,m205, UF, maroon wool, Orange LC pad, and White LC foam pads..



on light colored cars.. however....



The dark colored vehicles are really time consuming and, quite frankly kicking my butt.



I manage to get the correction on dark colored vehicles to about 90 percent corrected.

I KNOW, i can get it better though.



I've been reading around and many people seem to be using Menzerna Polishes after the m105. (I've never used any Menzerna polishes) Anyone with a good second step compound/pad combo to share would be great.





On the other hand, i've been seeing Optimum Compound floating around, and word is they can knock out 1500 grit sandscratches with a foam pad. (If anyone has pics to share with this, please contribute) If I can correct sandscratches with the Optimum 1-2 punch, that would be awesome. Thanks all!
 
If your having problems removing the scratches from 1500, 2000, Sounds like you need to maybe work on your snading a little more or try refining your sanding with something like 3000 on a d/a to even things out nicley.



Should look something like this when your done.

Sheesh Theal, haven't you compounded that thing yet?!? :chuckle:



But seriously...yeah, IMO most people oughta finish their sanding with something like 3-4K to ensure that they really do get all the sanding marks out. And in many ways I think that gentle sanding can actually be safer than really aggressive compounding.

I generally use twisted wool on a rotory and Megs diamond cut. number 84 I think? :confused:

also I would reccomend using the Blue Ultrafina Pad with Ultrafina/Ultrafine. for those finickey paints. I havnt used it with the lake country red or gold but I have read people's success with those pads too.

Have you used m105 before? How does the cut compare to the megs84?

Heh heh, you're starting to sound like an old fart yourself...seems like neither one of us can remember the number for that Diamond Cut! Last time we were talking you had to go out to the shop and look it up, and now we've both forgotten it again already :eek:
