I brought the M5 back home today, so I was able to continue my Klasse testing. I QD'd the hood and applied a 2nd coat of SG. I don't have a "microfiber applicator" that ShortCut suggested- but I did try folding up an Ultimate Wipe into 1/8ths. This didn't work - first swipe put in on too thick, second removed it ENTIRELY. So i tried another suggestion, went back to the foam pad, parked the car in the sun, and did long passes straight down the hood. I could see this fairly well if I moved just right - I could see the streaks. I'm pretty sure I got it on about as thin as I could without actually removing it with the applicator. Probably used 12 drops for the hood.
I let it cure for an hour. Buffed it out, with and without QD. Came off easier than last time, but there were still some spots that I had to go back over. My principal objection is that I have to look SO carefully - because the missed spots barely show - that is, of course, until you're showing off your car to somebody that night and the light falls just right. So Buffing took more time than I like to spend. Also, getting the spots that were a tiny bit too thick seems to take a lot of pressure on the wipe - and this scares me. If there is ever something there to cause a scartch, now it's going to be a dusey!
No argument with the look - it looks really good. No argument with the economy - a little bit goes a long way. The vote is still out on SG for me, though. I'm just not entiirely happy with the difficulty in applying it thinly yet evenly, and buffing it out. I think for coat #3 I will try the orbital with a soft foam pad for application. In my experience with other products (and even AIO) this does a good job of spreading a small amount of material thinly and evenly. I will ALSO try the orbital for buffing out, with an Ultimate Bonnet over a soft foam pad. If that combination works, I'll do the whole car.
