Safe Engine Detailing

When spraying down an engine with degreaser and hosing off is there a safe way to do it so that the run off isn't hurting the enviornment and more importantlly my brand new lawn. I tried a method i read about here on DC where you degrease wash and then let dry and spray with Armour All tire foam. I think it came out pretty good for minimal work required. I don't know if the Armour All will hurt the hoses and other components more than other products but the results are good.

I'd hunt around and try to find a biodegradable degreaser. Whether or not that will mean anything I can't say. You could spring for one of those very costly water mats mobile pro detailers use. They sell somewhere in the $1000 range

I personally use 303 or a similar quality product on the hoses and plastic. You have to apply via sponge/ foam paint brushes but it really isn't very labor intensive and probably takes similar time and covers the same, if not more areas than the foam.
