Saaaweet 08 Z06 and 08 JSB Vette

Josh, I really don't understand why someone feels the need to increase the HP on a C6 Z06. After months of considering upgrading myself, I decided to finally test drive a new Z06. After the test ride, I gladly got back into my C6 and decided to keep it. The HP increase was so dramatic that I felt that the Z06 was borderline dangerous. I accelerated heavily in second gear doing around 35mph on a straightaway and there was so much power, that the entire rear end kicked out and sent me into oncoming traffic. It's not really a feeling of controlled power either, it's more like someone woke up a giant and he is pissed. I'm a good driver but the Z06 must be taken very seriously and when I'm cruising in my C6, I just want to enjoy the ride not feel like I'm poking a bear with a stick.

STUNNING Z06... The new Vettes just keep getting better and better. It looks like the interior build quality is very nice!

ARE YOU NUTS? They have a Looong way to go on interiors... Christ I wanted a Z06, test drove one, but was so put off by that typical GM interior, just not fitting a car like this. Oh and I'm a former 'Vette owner ('69 L-88) which was a true muscle car. They may as well do the interior as a true track car. Thin door skins, carbon fiber, thin seats, real steering wheel etc.

Another reason I went with a Porsche. True sports cars, interior is just perfect. It's a whole different experience going from front engine cars to rear engine. :werd: I just could not see spending the money on a Z06 no matter how much HP it had. It just didn't look really any better than a standard C6.

Take a look at a standard Porsche Carrera and then look at the GT3-RS. Now you'll see the difference. No big difference between a C6 or Z06 when you look at them.

Anyway, the exterior look nice, the subwoofer is just silly in a Z06! :nixweiss You're defeating the whole purpose of the Z06 as a true performace car, not a street cruiser. You want to listen to the engine!!!

I have to say, GM seems to be getting a bit better in paint finishes. Most are full of orange peel, but I do hope it improves soon.

Nice job getting these to look their best. :bigups The blue is really sharp and the black is a rolling mirror:drool:

The Z06 is amazing.. Any hp numbers after the LT's and tune. I've heard that some have lost HP with aftermarket headers on the C6 because GM has the stock ones so right on..

To each his own.....I think he just likes to personalize it like most do.

Since when did they start letting people test drive new vettes, let alone a Z?? Was this at a dealership?

I know what you're saying about the power, pretty nice I think, but not built for our common everyday uneven streets, more for a smooth surface or track.

Don't know who you heard that from?

His last 06 Z06 was putting out about 550RWHP with LT's, big fat Cam and a few other goodies tuned mean. I could barely keep it running at idle. I could only take a guess at this one, probably around 480-500RWHP. He's got more then just LT headers in it, but nothing serious and I believe they put out around 450RWHP stock.

Hey Thanks eveyone. Sorry there's no major correction or anything documented, but I've got a few lined up that I'll be posting up about in the up coming months that should be something worth talking about.:bigups

and to think some of us spend a lot of time and money to get our cars

to have that kind of "dangerous" power:lol

Josh, it was at a Ferrari/Maserati Dealership in MA where a car like the Z06 is at the low end of the pricing scale. I went to this dealership for exactly the reason you just brought up. Chevy dealers act like the Z06 is some sort of multi million dollar space shuttle. They want you to buy it but don't want you to drive it, sit in it or touch it. The Ferrari dealership was just the opposite. They couldn't get me in the car fast enough. Heck, the sales person who accompanied me on the ride was only 22.

Big Jim, don't get me wrong, I love power as well. This just didn't feel like controlled power. Maybe the asphalt was too cold so the tires had little grip but it was just way too easy to break the rears free and fishtail out of control. Seriously, maybe the cold New England weather had a lot to do with it. Maybe it would have gripped better on a hot summer day and thus felt more stable.

Yea, no kidding! I had the same issue when I went to try the Z06. Dealers act as if this is some show car. Sure, some dealers only get so many allocations, but how are you to sell these if you can't drive it? What's next, virtual Z06? The several dealers that did not want me to drive the car were a bit shocked when I showed up in the Porsche. I told them how serious I was, but since they didn't want to work on a deal let alone drive it, I passed. One of the salesmen looked at my interior and did comment on how nice it was as opposed to the Z06 DUH. Also big difference in price. If a Z06 had anything close to Porsche level interior, these things would fly out the dealer. Oh yea, now there's the new Vette out, let's see how many dealers will let people drive THAT one!:doh

Anyway, when I did find a dealer that let me take one out, it was noisy, lots of road noise and tire noise (balsa wood floor with CF wrap) then it started getting hot inside (lack of insulation) and after parking it, the smell of melting plastic.. ugh.

Great track car, but for the street, I'd hate to drive it long distance as I'd get tired of all the noise, heat and smell.

On the track, Z06 can smoke just about anything when setup with a good alignment, Mich Sport Cups or other "R" compound tires. Damn thing goes as if it's on rails when tires are up to temp.

That's one great looking car though! Nice detail on it, and sharp! Rolling mirror.:xyxthumbs
