S&W as Prewash

Would Poorboy's S&W or QEW be useful as pretreatment to remove the bulk of the surface soil and grime from the paint surface before washing? I would like to use something that would loosen the grime's grip on the surface and allow a water nozzle spray to wash off the majority of the dirt.

I've tried car wash shampoo in several concentrations, but I haven't been successful at removing much of anything without using a wash mitt. I'm not trying to take a shortcut washing my vehicle, my primary motivation is to reduce surface contamination before rubbing the paint with the wash mitt and thereby reduce the risk of marring the paint.

Any other suggestions?

Are you talking about wiping with the S&W or QEW? Or just spraying it on and letting it soak? IMO, if you are going to wipe, you'll do just as well with the regular wash where you can flush it plenty with the car wash solution, and hose it off real well before you touch anything to flush off any loose contaminants.

If you're worried about marring, read Accumulator's wash technique, and the rest of the foam gun guys will chime in on this, I'm sure.

How dirty is your car? Im assuming that if you are looking for a "prewash" that its pretty dirty.

What I do is I never let me car get too dirty. About every 3 days I wash with Spray N Wipe and have yet to find much if any marring from it and it saves hours of washing as well as water.

I would say that if you want to reduce your time then wash really well and polish/seal/wax one day and then folow up with S&W every couple of days. That is what I have been doing and its soooo nice not having to drag out the bucket and water and blah and blah.

My greatest problem is the dirt and film that collects from driving in the rain. It doesn't take much for the surface to become really nasty, and with a black bc/cc marring is a major concern.

Living in south Louisiana there are three things you can count on with the weather; it's raining, it's about to rain or it just finished raining. A few of the weather reporting stations in my area reported over 80 inches of rain in 2004.

A one time purchase of a foam gun will reward you many, many times over especially in situations like this
