RX-7 disaster...part 2, exterior

My brother used to have an RX-7 with paint that looked exactly like this. I took my 7424 to it with some 3M PI2 FC Compound, and there was so much paint transfer that I was afraid to keep going. As a last ditch effort, I tried some FP2 on it to at least bring back some gloss, and it basically looked back at me and gave me the finger. I really need a rotary. Doesn't really help that it seems to be cheap SS paint though...

SVR...isn't it convenient to have water-absorbing paint! Now that you have a better idea of the condition of the paint, could those sections of oxidized paint still be saveable.

MDRX8...This is NOT my car!!!! But when some people don't have the time or patience with the rotary engines, this is what happens.

SpeedTheory...you will be surprised to note that the PC did a fine job on some spots, but that's probably because the paint was soft in those areas!

Sorry friends of autopia...I did not play with the paint yesterday as I was too busy with other things. I will be away from the vehicle for a few days, but I am certainly going to keep-on working with this paint to get it in as good of a condition as possible.

Last night I ordered some Microban disenfectant and Extreme Cut for future nasty jobs though.

It will obviously take alot of polishing and it may not come up flawless but if you persevere, it should begin to respond to your input

An an RX-7 owner, this thread makes me extremely sad. I saw one worse though. It was at a dealership and had been sitting outside for over 5 years. The car WAS red but was probably 1/2 white when I saw it.

These cars, along with 300z's and 3kgt's, tend to end up this way a lot, at least in my experience in my area back home (VA). These were such hot cars back in the day but people just seem to let them go to sh*t. However, on the up side, it provides a lot of great opportunities for detailing guys to bring one of these beauties back from the dead. I applaud your efforts on this car and I'm sure you'll figure something out if you keep playing with different products.

sad to see an rx7 in this condition

Rotary engines have theyre moments but you can still wash it or use a car cover
