Rusted Rotors..........(disc brakes)

I just can't stand seeing a beautiful car with rusted rotors.......

I paint my calipers and rotors with Hi-Temp Engine paint each time I rotate the tires.....(usually twice a year)......

No rust, no ugly primer........just SHINE! And very easy to keep clean.

Do you mask the contact surface off or do you just spray carefully?

I don't mask the contact area. As soon as the pads touch the rotors.....the paint is gone. Wears off by the time I'm at the end of the driveway.

BTW its PlastiKote Hi-Temp Engine Paint.

You have to repaint them twice a year? I've had my brakes (calipers and rotor hats) with high temp paint (withstands 1200 degrees) for a couple years and it still looks perfect. I just clean them when I wash the wheels and they stay looking nice. On my track car I used Foliatec 2-part caliper paint and it has made it through more than 10 track events with super high temps and it still looks great.

Driving the car reguarly will keep the rust off the rotors.

There are some rotors that are coated that will not rust.

Rust poses a problem with my 300zx that i drive about once a week.

True, but I think Luster is talking about painting the hub of the rotor, which also gets rusty and.... icky looking. :p

I wonder if it'd work to try painting the rotor edge too? Hmm...

Anyway, this is definitely on my "to do" list once I scrape the cash together for some wheels that actually show my discs. That brake assembly looks factory-fresh Luster! :xyxthumbs I think one of the benefits of the fact that you don't mask the disc is that the paint covers the metal right up to the area of pad sweep - you can tell in the picture.

PS: To those of you who paint your brake DRUMS some wild colour - :nono

Yes, its the hub and the edge that are the rust problem areas, not the pad contact area. The edge (circumference) can also look alot better/cleaner if painted.

I really don't "re-paint".........

I should have said "TOUCH-UP AS-NEEDED". I have painted them once and then done some minor touch-up when I rotated the tires.

The calipers have only been painted once and still look like the day they were painted.

so lets see how it goes.. I would also consider the Eastwood caliper paint.. supposed to be foolproof and flows out to an even finish.. they usually do good stuff..

Luster aka Bill, I used to live in Overland Park and owned a 1998 GTP until I traded it in a year ago after having a nasty accident. I had the GTP badges removed because I didnt care for the look and you really couldnt read them anyway.. so what all have you done to yours.. BTW, I had every option except the plugin service for extra cold areas. Loved the heads up and the steering wheel radio controls...

BUT, I really love my new ride.. Ford Lightning..

Back to the original question, what all have you done to yours?

Man that looks great! I already have my calipers painted, but now after seeing the hat (where the wheel meets the rotor), I'm going to do mine in silver as well. Thanks for the pic!
