I have rust on the outside of my brake rotors. The rust is fairly new because the car is brand new. Is there a way to get the rust off without compromising the rotor? Thanks for any advice in advance.
welcome to the site....is this right after you wash the car...or all the time...either way I would suggest taking it back to the dealership to see what they say if its that new..
If you are seeing rust spots on the rotor surface after they have been wet this is perfectly normal. Go drive the car and then come back and see if they are still there.
If after driving it and using the brake you still have heavy rust then that may indeed be and issue for you to have looked at. Brake rotors will get rust on them over night simply from the moisture in the air and always get it after washing.
It will be fine. Rotors are raw metal due to the friction the pads put on them, and will rust like railroad tracks after a rain, but much like those railroad tracks, it will be gone with the first application of the brakes.
