ROAR!!! my claybar is marring paint

I bought a gray (fine) clay bar from Poor boys some months back, then what looked to be the exact same claybar from a KOI Auto here in Cincy. Both of them are marring paint lately-like a medium clay would. I use ONR as lube and I haven't changed anything as far as technique or chemical ratio, so I'm wondering what is up? Is it a temperature thing?

I'm looking at Pinnicale XMT fine clay right now, also Pinnicale sell a pound of their Ultra Poly clay too. Can anyone tell me good/bad etc on these?

I just want a clay that won't marr paint b/c I don't always polish cars after claying them.

Clay Magic Blue, the best and most bang for your buck IMHO, and I've tried many others. Get a gallon of AM #49 Bodyshine for lube and you're set.

Could be something embedded in the bar. Besides, clay is abrasive and will definitely mar softer paints.

Brand new bar, used it on a Toyota, lexus and porsche and all 3 of them got marred. Makes me wonder if the product was labeled wrong, ie not all gray clay is fine clay

Or maybe a batch came out "different" or it's another reformulation issue like what happened with the Sonus stuff.

..not all gray clay is fine clay

That's sure the truth!

yea not all clay colors designate their rating. i.e. DP clay is light grayish white and is pretty hard and pretty aggressive compared to all my other melt in my hand on a hot day grey bars. i like it cuz it doesnt marr too much considering how hard it is and how much it removes in 2-3 light passes.

I wouldn't call all Toyota's soft clear. I have owned a few and detail some for regular customers and while they're not Audi, they ain't Honda either.
