You are heating the surface of the paint which is causing it to expand, like stretching the skin apart on the top of your wrists. This alone can cause defects to be less visible.

Todd, I've heard this before about paint expanding or swelling with heat.



Do you know if there is any practical evidence of this, I mean a way to double check that theory??



Also do you think after the surface heat is reduced the surface contracts back to normal or does it stay expanded?? The heat only lasts a short time in most cases so that's why I ask?



I'm not questioning you, please don't take it that way if it comes across that way, I'm just curious your thoughts on it after it cools down?

Boy [the topic of Menzerna concealing flaws is] a can of worms.

Yeah, after that experience with my Yukon (talk about a controlled test situation too!), some of us will *never* trust 106FF enough to skip the IPA/PrepWash I felt almost as bad for Joe as I did for myself, and I was the guy who had to fix it!

I learned my lesson over 15 years ago with Meg----! Please don't take offense. If it works for you, like Dr Phill says, go with it.

A lot has changed in 15 years. IMO, #105 and #205 are the best polishes for the widest variety of paints currently on the market.



You are right though, the lubricating oils in Meguiars #80 series products can hide as much as they remove.

Metal expands when it heats up, simple physics. As a result, the paint has to have some stretch or give to handle the expansion. I don't know what Todd's experience has been regarding this but for me, polishing in the sun works very well since it heats up the metal and stretches out the paint. Sort of like when you straighted out a bed sheet I guess. Seems like since the paint is somewhat flattened out, that the defects aren't as deep and polish out easier. I can sure tell a difference in the summer sun vs halogens in the winter.

Quick question...Prepsol and Prepall removes residue and oils... is this safe for a car with clear bra? There are essential oils needed to keep the pores of the clear bra from drying out and I'm afraid a wipe down with either after polishing will prematurely dry out the clear bra.

Do not use those chemicals on a clear bra. Don't think that's a good idea.



Also I would contact the installer and ask them directly.

Scott, I see where you're coming from but I dont' find it easier to polish a car in direct sun light. I have actually done it and it was impossible to work in the polish at all. Surface temps way too hot and dried up the product extremely fast. That was my experience. I'll never try it again either.
