I'd like to know aswell.

Read the entire first 1/2 of Justin's first post in this thread. He very clearly states the advantages of the ShMitt over any other type of wash mitt.

QEW and ONR don't exactly work like your typical wash and rinse. There is no initial rinse, and over all water usage is lower. Generally when doing a QEW the mit or mf you are using gets coated in dirt... if the smitt doesnt retain dirt, how effective if not dangerous is it to use?

I don't know which is exactly why I am asking. I dont dont think during a QEW dirt is going to pool off the side of the horizontal surfaces like it does during a normal wash. But since I don't have one of these, i'l like to know because if it works then that seems like the mit to get since it'll last longer.

[edit: removed the sheepskin quesiton from my previous post cuz i wasn't interested in that]

I use ONR and a new shmitt. It works just fine, and I havent noticed any scratching or new marring.

Same here. The yellow actually is better. Holds and releases more particles. I've tested them all on severl makes and colors.

Not one problem at all!

I'm a bit disapointed about Edge's affiliation with D C. I think that it hurts their ability to stand as an honest, repuable company.

I was part of the kerfuffel over there with the new Zaino reviews... That was my first thought. I love my Shmitts, but I was going to return them. The reviews by Justin were posted over there before the Shmitts were released. The Zaino thread was busted because the reviewers were shills for Zaino. I hope the Edge is reading this. What happened there was not acceptable. I am done w/ DC.

The "shills" term was what what the DC moderator (fuzz) termed. I have deep respect for the the thread there about those that posted about ZCS and ZAIO. .....It's a shame and shame on DC. This site has showed tremendous maturity.

I have edited my post from above. I went too overboard on some of the sponsors at DC and their association with the controversy at DC. I will continue to use Edge and Shmitt. In my opinion, it probably should win the most innovative product of the year for 2006. The Shmitt has radically changed the way I wash cars, safely. Wool mitts were my favorite before. But due to the wool mitt being a natural product, the quality can vary from batch to batch.

The Shmitt has the following advantages:

- on the white Shmitt foam pad, YOU CAN SEE the grit. With the wool mitt, the embedded grit is not seen

- you can easily glove it, like a catcher's mitt. You can squeeze the foam pad to make it more sudsy

- it has a lot more soap holding capacity vs. the wool mitt (and yes, I have embedded a grout sponge inside the wool mitt)

- it is a lot more durable than wool and does not nap up like wool fibers - wool naps up easily after about 10 washes.

- it's not a sponge, it's the same foam pad technology you use to polish paint on your auto. So it is safe.

- technique: rather than scraping against the grit guard (which is awkward), I scrape the Shmitt on the outside of the rinse bucket, forcing any grit to fall outside the bucket - not in the rinse water.

The last point is huge. I now average about 2 pieces of grit in my rinse bucket and zero in my suds bucket. This is what it is all about, minimizing swirls during a wash.

I am not kidding when I say, this product is the most innovative product for 2006. It's changed my washing technique.

The thing work perfectly...my sheepskins always put micro-scratches in my paint. I've had none so far with the ShMitt. It's like night and day if you're trying to reduce wash induced scratches.

I just used my ShMitt for the first time this weekend, and I really like it. The foam holds so much soapy water, and it glides so smoothly over the paint, it made the whole wash pretty fun. Stays on great too, don't have to worry about gripping it, and getting cramped fingers in the cold water. I was so happy with it, I already bought a second one.

I used two buckets, no grit guards, but scraped the ShMitt against the edge of the rinse bucket. The dirt easily came right off. I checked it every time because I was leary of grit staying in the foam. But it was not a problem at all.

Bulla - DC stands for DetailCity.org, another detailers forum that doesn't get the amount of traffic that this one gets. But, I see some of the same names on both. If you have some cheese or a loaf of bread - you'll get plenty of wine (whine) reading how one of the Moderators busted a thread glorifying the god Zaino by a couple of his minions. Personally, I like DC, it's friendly and informative. Autogeek is a sponsor and they always try to help out when they can. The only thing about DC is that there's not much activity there - at least at this time, makes it easy to see if anything new has been posted though. BTW - Edge is sponsor too and as soon as I can I'm going to buy some pads and Schmitt.

I'm so glad that this post is still active. The ShMitt is simply one on the most innovative detailing products around. I love hearing more and more success stories.

Thanks guys.

Thanks all and special to JuneBug for your comments. My friend Ron from Motorgeek UK made me an offer of the ShMITT so I will order the white/yellow in the next days. Perhaps I will order a second one or the complete white ShMITT. Or the black ShMITT for the wheels too? I´m not sure, but your comments are very very helpful for me as an german beginner in detailing. Thanks guys.

Hey if it works then it needs to be known. It'll save you money in the long run as well.

I get well over 100+ uses out of one mitt. Not happening with a sheepskin or chenille!

I've got sheepskins over three years old with 100 washes on them. So, to the contrary, it *is* happening with sheepskins.

Like anything, with proper care, it will last.

As far as a cost basis, I can get 3 Eurow sheepskin mitts for about the price of one Shmitt. When Costco sold them in the 4 packs I could almost 8 mitts for the price of one Shmitt.
