Review: SONAX: Rim Cleaner

I bought this wheel cleaner because I wanted something to use on my expensive summer wheels, but wasn't as harsh as Eagle One A2Z. I had been using A2Z on my winter wheels for awhile, but I wanted to avoid using something that strong on my summer wheels so I decided to try this wheel cleaner. The A2Z is strong enough to have removed the driveway sealant around all 4 of my wheels where I wash, so I though I would avoid using it on my nice wheels.

My first impression was how nice the foaming sprayer was, the product really clung to my wheel. With slight agitation, the wheels looked great. It was nice to have something stronger than car wash which is what I have been using on them but not so strong as to having to worry about it damaging the wheel easily. The cleaner didn't smell harsh or irritate my skin. Sonax wheel cleaner gets two thumbs up.

bj, any other thoughts on the SONAX wheel cleaner? I tried a search but very little has been written on the topic. I picked up a few new products from David:

  • 1Z car wash
  • 1Z Perls Shampoo
  • Gummi phlege

Hoping to hear some additional comments on the wheel cleaner and these shampoos.

Thanks.

BJ/Tom--- the sonax wheel cleaner is awesome I have basically tried all the wheel cleaners out there. The A2Z works good but a gell works much better and the einzett wheel cleaner had a irritating smell. I use to use p21s but after comming upon sonax I beilieve it performs just the same with less cost. I order cases of this stuff from david now. The reason why I like sonax is for a few reasons. The first being it has a minty fragrance and doesn't irritate the eyes. I don't use liquid wheel cleaners any more because of the mist and being outside sometimes the wind can blow that stuff into your eyes and the nozzle head has a foaming setting. I've also found out that I can use much less product and it doesn't take much of this stuff to clean a wheel like new. On a 19inch wheel all it takes is about 3 to four squirts and just agitate the foam with a brush or sponge. I found out that if you position the nozzle away from the wheel about 12 to 16 inches it will ditribute the cleaner very nicely over the wheel surface. Just remember to pump or press the trigger really hard to shoot the cleaner out. Applying it too close will just waste product because you don't need it in every creavice on the wheel, just spread it with a bruch or sponge, at around $8.50 a bottle it aint cheep too but it works wonders.

Tom- the 1z car was works great and the sonax car wash too. I find them to perform very much alike and cleans very well. Both have great suds. I constantley swich between 1z, sonax and p21s. The reason is just for the fragrance because I was 3 to 4 cars a week on the weekends. People might find this wierd but pshcologicaly it helps because at least I'm smelling a differrent fragance each time. I find that p21s seems to be thinner and has less suds than the rest but works the same. The p21s has a apple smell and the 1z is more refresing and the sonax is kind of brutty. The only complain for the 1z is the pakaging of the cap it broke/cracked when I tightened it too much. And when it tipped over it all spilled out (I tought the cap was on, but it split at the top) I just ordered the 1z perls shampoo from david and will try it out this weekend. I let you guys know how it goes.

wombatt, that's great to hear about the wheel cleaner. I have used P21s wheel cleaner for ~20 years and have been really pleased with it. Like you, sometimes I have to get as many as 4 cars washed during the weekend and seek an excellent wheel cleaner that is easy on the finish but tough on the dirt. It's got to be capable of handling the unique cleaning requirements of a grimey wheel. Having an excellent, dedicated wheel cleaner is critical to me, I have no time to waste when dealing with 4 cars and 16 wheels.

The cars are all clean at the moment but I am anxious to give these new products a spin and see how they do. I really enjoy finding new products that save time AND do an excellent job! That's very satisfying.

Thanks again!:D :)
