Review: PC 7424 vs. PC 7424XP

Bill, I agree that its easier to hold the new XP when polishing, but IMO the new machine has more vibes at speed 6. That is the only speed I use.

.

After I read your post last night, I decided to do one more side-by-side comparison for vibration. I just finished the test and here are my findings:

Test Conditions:

I placed both polishers on my "test" fender for the comparison. I tested both machines holding the main body of the machine in my hand, with my thumb on the on/off switch. That way I could switch them on at the same time. There was no handle attached to either machine. Each machine had a 5.5" orange pad, with 3M Rubbing Compound.

Sorry no pictures... I didn't have a third hand.

Vibration Under No Load - Speed 6:

The 7424 and the XP model were pretty close. I would say the vibration was negligible.

Vibration Under 15 lb. of Pressure - Speed 6:

Upon further review, the XP does have a little more vibration than the original 7424. I would say 5% more at the most. Barely noticible.

Conclusion:

Does the additional vibration outweigh the additional power? In my opinion, no. In my initial review, I didn't even notice the extra vibration, but I did notice the extra power. When I actually compared the machines side by side, at the same time, actually looking for vibration issues, there is a slight difference, but not enough to keep me from purchasing the XP.:)

Even if I was using the 7424XP all day, every day, I really don't think the vibration issue would be enough to stop using it.

(When I was a teenager, I ran a jack-hammer on a concrete demolition crew for 8 hours a day. So I guess a little vibration wouldn't bother me much.)
