Review of UCoat It Garage Floor Covering

I will partially hijack my own thread because I really like talking cars. Especially Porsche. I wish I had your TT :D However, I am fortunate to have a Porsche period.

The 996 is a completely different car from the 993. Which is both good and bad. Just for reference my 993 had PSS-9 and was lowered and aligned to RS specs so take the following comments with this in mind. Irrespective of the suspension the 996 is more refined and civilized compared to the 993. Which is great on long trips. There is more room in the interior and the front trunk is actually usable. However, it has lost some the “character of the air cooled cars. The cabin is much quieter than the 993 and you don’t get the whirling mechanical sounds from the air cooled cars (which I loved). The climate control system and the ergonomics of using it is superior to the 993. However I am not completely sold on the gauge layout. I sort of miss the old school air plane looking gauges. My wife likes the interior of the 996 much better.

Performance wise, the car is a little quicker than the 993, however accomplishing this is done with less drama and aural satisfaction than what the 993 offered. I plan on experimenting with a different exhaust in the future (I don’t want harley loud but I would like a little more and different “music). The handling is similar to the 993 but has a more detached feeling. The chassis is stiffer which ironically I feel helps with the ride quality. It would be interesting if I had more time in MY 02 and newer to compare it to as that chassis is suppose to be 20% stiffer than the 99-01. I am anxious to drive a ROW M030 equipped 99-01 996 to see what type of ride it offers as I would like the slightly lower look and the superior rake angle on the car, however, as this a daily driver and long drive car I don’t want to deteriorate the ride quality so much that my wife complains and doesn’t want to take it out of town.

I have not had a chance to take it to a DE yet. Hopefully in the fall. I really want to explore the handling in a safe environment. The car feels bigger than the 993 (which it is) but at the same time seems to handle better and in stills more confidence. I could ramble forever so I will stop here. Any specific questions and I would happy to answer them.

Bottom line, the 996 is a great sports car for my application which is both a daily driver and a weekend fun car.

Very helpful review. I have a 600 square foot garage I'll be coating sometime this year or early next year. I'll probably be going with the U-Coat-It stuff.

I purchased a U Coat it system for my 3 car garage, newly constructed home. The system was a little bit of work, but that is to be expected, nothing really too difficult.

They have detailed instructions and a CD to view. The BIG PROBLEM, I followed the instuctions perfectly and the outside temp was perfect. The floor looked pretty good, but a couple weeks after I installed it, it was raining outside and I parked my new F-150 King Ranch in the garage. The next day when I pulled the truck out of the garage, the floor lifted where the tires sat overnight. This happened anytime the tires were wet, anywhere on the floor. Also I left my 06 Corvette parked in one spot for two weeks and when I moved it the floor also llifted where those tires sat dry.

What really made me mad was after I went thru the warranty process, I was sent a letter from U Coat It, about 2 months later saying it was my fault because I did not install the system properly. This is untrue, I followed the instructions perfectly. BEWARE of U Coat It, they do not stand behind their product.

Wow,

Sorry to hear about your problems. My original application held up wonderfully. We sold the house last May and the garage floor looked brand new. No lifting or peeling at all. The cars what went in and out were not easy on the floor either. My 993 was a heat machine with big wide tires. The 996 and Cayman S also had big tires. Drove them in wet, snowy, etc. with no problems. The biggest hazards to the floor that I encountered were rocks in the treads and/or getting a rock stuck under the steel wheels of a floor jack. UCoat It was wonderful to deal with then.

I went with the UCoat It product again in our new to us house. The application was more difficult on this house because of the prep work. The prep work took me much longer because of some abuse by the previous owners. I say abuse and most would say normal use of a garage. I had to take up some paint and I had to really degrease and scrub some areas.

My finished product actually looks better on this house than the first. I decided not to use the texture material this time because it attracted dirt and made it harder to clean and the deletion makes for a nicer finish. I have had the new coating on the floor for about 2 months now with no issues. I followed the directions to the T and actually didn't drive any cars onto the finished floor for 10 days.

Now that said I have one complaint about UCoat It, however, it does not have to deal with product performance. The Ugloss-AF application is difficult to cover correctly because it is the exact same color as the finished product. I learned alot from my first application and didn't make near the misses with roller this time. In fact I only had 2 missed spots, whereas, last time I had something like 10. I called Ucoat It (like I did last time) and they said the could send me a repair kit. It cost $42!!!!! whoa! 7+ years ago it was free, not now. Sure the mistake was my part and I guess I should pay, however, because of my past experience I was caught off by the cost.

Doesn't fresh concrete have to cure before you can put a coating on it?

I was thinking the same thing...concrete was probably not fully cured and still letting moisture out.

Didnt say if he did the moisture test...but as soon as he said it was a new house, that is what came to mind right away.

Excellent review. Several years ago, I used the Behr Garage Paint System. I etched the concrete with Muriatic acid and cleaned and prepped the floor, I then waited 48 hours before applying the Behr System. I rolled two complete coats and let it dry (with no traffic: vehicles/dogs/people) for another week. It looked great until I pulled my truck in and instantly had hot tire pickup. Needless to say, after the floor paint started to look ratty, I just removed it. I have heard of no problems with the UCoat It system (epoxy based compared to the Behr system).

Hey all,

I know i'm diggin up a mighty old thread here, but just wanted to hear from those who laid down the u-coat it. How is it holding up after all these years??

I have a garage floor that's about a year old now and i want to get a coating on it.

thx :)

Bumping this up again, I'm thinking of doing the ucoat system myself, any long term opinions? Better alternatives?
