Review my gameplan!

This is my first time detailing. I have a black 2001 Honda Civic lx. I was hoping some of you could go over my game plan and give me some constructive criticism if necessary.

There are a significant amount of swirls when viewed in direct sunlight. I don’t have a pc and can’t afford one right now, so I’ll be doing this by hand,

Wash

TW Bug and Tar remover in the front

Clay

Rinse of a second time.

Polish with 3m swirl mark remover for dark colors

Klasse AIO

Klasse SG x 2

Carnuba wax using a free sample I have.

What do you think?

If you're doing it by hand, don't expect to lose the swirls, unless you are the exception to the rule (see Scottwax) and able to remove imperfections by hand. SMR by hand won't achieve a swirl-less finish.

With that in mind, I don't think you'll be happy with AIO and SG. Also, they will remove any fillers that the SMR would provide. They will probably just turn the swirls into shiny swirls. I would think a glaze like Mothers, or something that fills in the swirls would work better, topped by a carnuba.

Option 1 (hide swirls)

Wash

TW Bug and Tar remover in the front

Clay

Rinse of a second time.

Polish with 3m swirl mark remover for dark colors

Carnuba wax using a free sample I have. (MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT "CLEANER type" WAXES)

Opt 2: Remove swirls

Wash

TW Bug and Tar remover in the front

Clay

Rinse of a second time.

Polish with 3m FINECUT RUBBING COMPOUND (to give you a good idea, by hand this will take atleast 30-45min/panel for good results, you can do it over several days if you wish)

Klasse AIO

Klasse SG x 2

Carnuba wax (again, cannot be a "cleaner wax')

I would consider not using Klasse also, if you don't have a PC. You might want to invest in Mother's Sealer and Glaze, or Meguiar's Hand Polish, and top with the carnauba.

SG is not great at hiding significant swirling, and it might just drive you mad, once you have the car all cleaned up.

Would the klasse remove the 3m fine cut rubbing compound if I did what you had listed under option 2?

I know I probably won't get all of the swirls out by hand, but I am hoping to at least reduce them a little until i can get a pc (probably 6 months from now).

BTW, the reason I was hoping to use the klasse aio and sg is because i live in an apartment complex where i dont have covered parking, and I've heard that the "klasse twins" have great durability. Is this true?

Thanks for the advice so far!

Yes, the klasse will remove any residues left by the fine cut.

However, the point of using the fine cut is to polish out the imperfections rather than fill them in, so removing any residue will not dimish the finish you just prepared.

I seem to remember last time I used 3M RC, I did not end up with a wax ready finish. In fact, doesn't the RC actually leave a hazy finish, since it is designed to remove major imperfection and needs to be followed by a more mild polish? I don't think AIO will remove the marring left behind will it? If you are only going to use 1 polish product, would Meguirs DACP be a better fit?

I used to use 3MRC and 3M SMR for DC, but since I got the Einszett products, the 3M products haven't seen much action.

Ok, what if I do the same process I mentioned in my first post only took out the Klasse AIO? This would polish and fill the swirls and then glazeover it to protect it. This way, the AIO won't undo the work of the 3m SmR for dark colors.

Would this be better?

I am anxious to get the answer to this, since I am now considering polishing with 3m fine cut rubbing compound and then using klasse AIO and SG for durability.
